Sigeli Z-Max Questions???

I just purchased a Sigeli Z-Max v3, and I think I have most of the functions figured out, but have a couple questions about it that I hope I can find the answers to. I have several other VV/VW mods so I am familular with that part of the operation, my first question is I have read where you can run 2 18350 betteries in it at once, is this true?, and if so what are the advantages & disadvantages of doing this versus running one 18650?. Second question, I assume that the Z-Max v3 will shut itself down when the batt voltage drops to a certain point, but how do you know when you reach that point, or does it just shut down without warning? Last question, what is the difference between the RMS and Mean modes, is one better than the other? Thanks in advance!!!!

If you want the best performance from a sigelei Zmax while running more than 10W, use stacked 18350s. I don't need 10W and above and run single batteries off all sizes but mostly 18500 and 18650.

The Sigelei Zmax will refuse to fire when the battery voltage hits 3.2V. Somewhere after the battery hits 3.2 or 3.3V the Sigelei display will say Low Vol when fired. This means low battery voltage. Most people don't notice the Low Vol display when it happens but will notice that the last two or three hits off the Sigelei are weak before it refuses to fire.

RMS voltage and wattage readings are accurate, Mean is not. Use RMS.

Lots of Sigelei Zmax V3 and V5 users here...

I just purchased a Sigeli Z-Max v3,

Congratulations! I have a Sig Zmax mini and I love it.

my first question is I have read where you can run 2 18350 betteries in it at once, is this true?, and if so what are the advantages & disadvantages of doing this versus running one 18650?.

Don't stack batteries. It's not safe as they don't discharge at the same rate. Just use a good quality 18650 IMR battery. I like the AW IMR--red jacket. The new hybrids (Panasonic, Orbtronic) are good too.

Second question, I assume that the Z-Max v3 will shut itself down when the batt voltage drops to a certain point, but how do you know when you reach that point, or does it just shut down without warning?

Yes, it will. But it also has a battery readout (4) that tells you the remaining voltage of your battery.

Last question, what is the difference between the RMS and Mean modes, is one better than the other? Thanks in advance!!!!

You want RMS--much smoother vape.

Have you watched Phil's video? Very helpful:

And a quick and dirty manual:

I like Phil's video but he does over tighten the battery tube for 18490 a bit. And that video is already out of date. The new version Sigelei Zmax V3 and the new V5 all feature removable top caps, one-piece stainless steel 510/eGo threading and new firmware that corrects some of the menu quirks Phil mentions. Also, the Sigelei Zmax remembers all important menu settings during a battery change if you run it in Power mode (VW) and not VV.

The 18650 is 65 mm long

The 18350 is 35 mm long
2 35mm batteries adds up to 70mm

Inside the box that came with mine is a bottom cap which is 5mm longer which I was told is for if I want to use 2 18350s instead of 1 18650.

Advantages of stacking 2 18350s:
The electronics will work more efficiently and produce less ripple - probably get a flat dc voltage - when the required voltage is higher than for a single battery.

Disadvantages :
Safety.
To use stacking batteries it is important to know the protocol for doing so; like getting two brand new batteries together, mark them, rotate them, and keep them together; this is because of the type of batteries - high drain lithium batteries; check baditudes blog for more info

Shutdown: The zmax gives a low voltage indicator on the screen when the voltage gets too low.
Better to recharge Lithium batteries before they reach low for better overall life of battery.

RMS is better.

Yup. Safety.

If the batteries are not perfectly balanced, even the IMRs, you have a potential pipe bomb in your hands.

I don't like the safety aspect of stacking batteries and I avoid it.

Battery lifespan is longer if you recharge at around 3.6V. In practice, I go for the maximum capacity and recharge at 3.3V or 3.2V. The longer battery capacity between recharges is worth it to me.

The Sigeleis run great under 10W with a single 18350, 18490, 18500 or 18650. They can run up to 15W with stacked 18350s.

I only use the short battery cap (10mm) when using the 18350 battery. This gives me the smallest length for the Sigelei Zmax Telescope of 100mm. When using longer sized batteries the idea is to not tighten the telescopic tube so that the battery is more than 1/2 compressed whether you use the short cap or the tall (15mm) cap. Using this as a guideline you get the same overall length for the Sigelei telescopic tube using either cap. So, I use the tall cap for all batteries longer than 18350. The tall cap is easier to use: it handles easier for me when I'm threading onto the tube. The tall cap is required for 2x18350.

I'm using the taller cap now (as a result of this thread); just thought I'd try it and it works with my 650 batt; mine is not telescoping btw; maybe the shorter cap is really only needed if I use flattop batteries instead of button tops. I notice the fasttech pictures don't show 2 caps.

Thanks for all the replies, while waiting for answers I did notice the "low batt" warning, I will probably just be using single 18350 batteries since one of the reasons I bought it is for the shorter length. THANKS AGAIN!!!!!

Good luck!

I prefer shorter lengths myself. I have a mini that I use with 18350 and 18490 batteries and it suits me just fine.
