I still don't have a solid stance on how I feel about this whole ordeal. However, I think this is a very prudent law proposal.. I'm shocked it's not a law already, and I'm sad that it has to be. I've never been for naming laws after a particular child, after all we pass these laws to protect all children, but now I'm just nitpicking. Bottom line is, this should be common sense but apparently, it's not. So let's make it a law.

Caylee's Law: Contact your State Senators and Representatives. There should be a new law created called Caylee's Law that will make it a felony for a parent or guardian to not notify law enforcement of a child gone missing in a timely manner. (24hrs)

but most police departments won't consider someone missing unless they're gone for 24 hours or more. which law wins out?

as a matter of principle i'm against all knee-jerk laws passed with a victims name attached. they really don't do much besides give people the warm fuzzies.

and in all fairness, it's MY kid, i'll decide when i want to call the police. one shouldn't be subject to a felony conviction because they didn't act quickly enough for some armchair quarterbacks liking.

I agree some of the quoted timelines here need to be adjusted. But honestly, if your kid is 100% missing and it takes you more than, say... 5 days.. to report it - Something is fishy.

Also if you find your child beaten to death.. I would imagine the first thought that comes to mind would be to call 911. Even if the child is clearly beyond rescue.. It should be an instinct.
