I think you are using too much vanilla in you vanilla mint.

This is a nice mint from Wayne Walker - he calls it Pillow Talk.

1.5% CAP Peppermint (you could use whatever Peppermint you like - I use FA's)
2.5% CAP Marshmallow (again, use what you like - CAP isn't as great as it used to be, FA is good, TFA is fine)
3% TFA Vanilla Bean Gelato (I would use Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, your favorite)
.5% FA Cream Fresh
.5% FA Meringue
1% TFA Cotton Candy (EM)
.5% TFA Sweetener

HIC has a similar one (he uses all FA flavors, subs will work)
Heart of Andes recipe: smooth vanilla-mint, like the center of Andes' Mints candy

2% FA Peppermint
1% FA Vanilla Bourbon (Classic will work okay, but Vanilla Bourbon's better here)
1% FA Vienna Cream
1% FA Fresh Cream
1% FA Marshmallow

Both are nice and refreshing. Each can use a 4 or 5 day steep.

Thanks for the recipes!

I’m not a huge CAP fan, but I find them to be more realistic than TFA. The few CAPs I do use layer well with TFA for that reason.

Haven’t tried many FA so I’ll have to add those you mentioned to my shopping list. Again, thanks!

Because you have actually used both; I respect your opinion a heck of a lot more than my own!:D

When I read your post, I went back to TFA's webpage, and see that they have three different Peppermint offerings listed in their Spec Sheets:

Only the "Peppermint Flavor**" has actual GC/MS data (the other two don't). The "II" version appears to be without alcohol (when I read their descriptions). I have no idea what the "(OS)" version is; but a wild-arsed guess is thinking maybe(?) "over seas" (no other entry found on their site)???

I am just wondering, if ECX isn't selling one of these versions under the TFA label, and selling one of the other two under their house Signature label. Two different formulas would explain the difference in taste perception.

Still... I am only guessing. ;):D
Still, a better guess than I came up with lol.

All I know is, the Sigs taste almost the same as the TFAs, the ones I’ve tried both of, anyway. Only more, um, developed? I want to say, almost like a one shot.

They’ve all been something that could stand alone, and seem to need less steep time. Could be me though.

So it would stand to reason that they’re a slightly different formula.

TFA surely does get confusing since they have more than one French Vanilla and do allow some vendors to rebottle and rename. Signature is ECX's rebranding. The real confusion comes from the different French Vanillas that TFA makes.

French Vanilla - Tastes like a vanilla extract with diketone
DX French Vanilla - no diketones
French Vanilla II - Smoother and sweeter than the original (DX and II may be the same thing depending on the rebottling)
French Vanilla Deluxe - STRONGER and richer - contains Acetoin and Acetyl Propionyl
French Vanilla Cream - like Deluxe without diketones

Since almost all retailers rebottle, whose to say how they actually label whichever French Vanilla you buy. It is frustrating!

CAP has some flavors that are must haves, IMO. Each flavor house does something better than anyone else. Of course, it depends on your flavor preferences whether any CAP flavors are must-haves. They do a great job with Sugar Cookie, Vanilla Custard v1, Lemon Juicy, among others. Flavour Art has some must-haves for every mixer's stash. I couldn't get by without the Cream Fresh, Lemon Sicily, Custard, and others. I do think FA makes the best peppermint, but taste is subjective. There are many TFA flavors I wouldn't like to have to get by without - that darned vanilla is too complicated for me. I just use Vanilla Swirl in anything that calls for vanilla. :D
