Susan, you can read all about every kind of wick material you can imagine here on ECF.
Silica, ceramic, cotton, bamboo, stainless steel mesh, etc.

This is one thread discussing silica wicks: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo.../377764-dangers-silica-wicks.html#post8545705

And another one: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-materials-safe-vs-dangerous.html#post5717639

Research is one way to arm yourself against "bad science" advice from people who don't know what they're talking about.

Google "what is silica wick made of" and you'll find a ton of links to read.

I am going to try to do better with the cotton. I have looked at so many you tube videos my eyes are crossed. LOL I am going to get a bigger magnifier. I do have cotton that looks like yarn but I am trying with the cotton balls. I will get it yet. LOL Then I have to learn how to do dual coils. It all takes time. Thank you all for the info and help. Oh and I also have silica so I will play. Thanks again.

Northern NJ native , Coastal NC now.
A big + 1 on magnifiers or readers , i had a nightmarish time building coils and rewicking when i started and i found out my eyesight went down hill ( 48 years old , eyesight i thought should still be good but apparently not).

Anyways when i put on a pair of readers i was rocking out new coils and rewicking as if i was a 20 year old again. I just tried silica after using cotton and "Peaches and Cream yarn" also excellent by the way, but i really liked the change to silica .

Susan ... My eyes aren't what they use to be either. So I went to Walmart and bought the below clamp on magnifier glass with a flexible goose neck. Works great and only about $15. You'll find it in the craft / Sewing area.

Cotton ball cotton is the easiest to insert into a coil, IMO. The end can be twisted up so it's pointed easier than silica or yarn. I wear my reading glasses, then my magnifiers over them. Now a days, I have to use magnifiers for any close up work. I have some that I wear on my head and flip up when I don't need them. Usually I'm wearing them half the day when I'm at home.
