Why do they call it RY4 ... or RY5?

What is the R and the Y, and the 4 .. 5 .. etc? I just know them as flavors, but I wonder why they are named that way.

Haha, you could always email a supplier? I'm sure they would know since they make it, lol! I saw something some where calling it Rye #4 or Rye #5 so maybe something to do with Rye? I dunno.

The RY stands for "Ruyan", which is the Chinese company that I assume originally brought the flavor to market. Supposedly the original recipe was lost.

I think.....let me preface think....The 4 and 5 stand for the amount of flavor. The higher the number the more sweeter it is.

I always thought it was a bit like Old #7. Presumably there were recipes # 1-6. It's just easier than naming each flavor something new.

I learn something new everyday...I would probably like it without the tobacco flavoring..I hear so many people talking about it, I hear its like a really really sweet vanilla bean caramel and mild tobacco. I adore caramel and the sweeter the better

The original recipe for the bagel was lost. It was passed on throughout generations, no one ever wrote it down and not one of the people who knew the recipe survived the concentration camps.
