Weird, my sense of taste and smell actually came back, but it did take awhile for that and my lungs to get rid of everything when I started almost 4 years ago (I have allergies too but mine are obviously way different than yours, Im allergic to my cats although smoking exacerbated that so I don't even notice them anymore). Now that I can smell again, lemme just say I really hate the litter box now!

I never really smoked cigarettes. Maybe 3-5 every other week but I did have times I would lose taste and smell to allergies I believe. I started vaping in December and 3 days after I noticed my toungue feeling burned or numb and mouth was dry and couldn’t taste or smell my vape or food. I started drinking nothing but water all day long every day to stay hydrated I tried the coffee bean, spicy foods, mouth wash, pickles, I’ve tried everything. It’s been almost 5 months and still can’t smell or taste. I quit vaping 5 days ago but still nothing has changed. Have I lost my smell and taste forever?

Perhaps I can offer some food for thought on your problem even though I haven't even tried vaping yet. As a one pack a day cigarette smoker, my sense of smell and taste are faint. If you were smoking cigarettes at the same rate as you are vaping you would notice a reduction of these senses anyway. Just a thought even though perhaps not a very good one.

When you vape, do you exhale thru nose only? Sounds like your allergies are effecting your senses.

Ok Ive always been curious as to WHY we vape this way? It was just something that was recommended to me when I first started so it became habit but, when I smoked I never exhaled through my nose. That actually burned too bad when I would cough or something and actually do it..

Yes, not sure if the OP exhales only thru nose, probably not because that would be obvious maybe to the issue, but when I smoked I always exhaled thru mouth and maybe a bit thru nose and do the same with vaping. As for others recommending only nose exhaling for vaping, maybe it's because they are trying to get max nic absorbtion? I heard that it gets absorbed much more efficiently

I can safely say that the sinuses are great for absorbing things. I mean they're actually kind of huge. When I nasal vaped during my oral surgeries, I went through far less eliquid (although part of it may have been my unconsciousness at the time, as well) but I never craved a cigarette, evn going through less eliquid.

It wasn't enjoyable enough to keep doing it or anything, but I will exhale through my nose from time to time.

It could cause increased sensitivity I guess, if allergies were the issue. I don't know if it explains everything though, I still think the OP should see a doctor.

Our sense of smell actually assists our sense of taste. Can you remember not being able to taste food or drink when your nose was blocked up when suffering from a head cold? You can't taste it because your sense of smell is temporarily out of whack.

Everyone's experience may be different from one another, but I've found that a lot of vape flavors can only be detected when at least some of the vapor is exhaled through the nose. Exhaling through both the nose and mouth enhances vapor flavors.

I have sinus problems and found out the hard way that 80% of taste is through the sinus. And my dad lost almost all taste and smell just from a deviated septum with no congestion. And also I lived in the woods full of cedar and oak for over 30 years with no problem... now I'm highly allergic to cedar and oak. Could be the vape doing it but id get a allergie test you could be highly allergic to the tree in your front yard.

Oh yeah DUHHHHHH! I don't know why I didn't think of that. With my sinus problems, I always had colds and congestion haha. Alot of that went away period when I quit smoking, and my cat allergies really ramped down as well too. Now its not so bad at all when I wake up and three of them are passed out on my face in the morning haha. I think I have a very similar vaping style to @vapedivrr, especially since I started using MTL and DTL attys. My old Egos and Protanks and Kayfun's were pretty much always through my nose, since there was so little vapor that came out of those anyways, and thats how I learned you're supposed to do it. I just took a vape right now and noticed, I do blow a little through my nose, but the majority of the cloud comes out of my mouth. The taste of the sour apple I'm vaping is definitely in my nose and not my mouth though. If it is, the nose exhale is definitely overpowering it and is where most of it comes from.

Mr Relentless - I feel your dads pain. A deviated septum is the cause of alot of my issues as well. Ive had plenty of people ask me when I broke my nose over the years because of the little crook in it, but Ive never broken it in my life. Im just defective that way. At least I don't get polyps inside anymore even further complicating things. Pretty sure that was all attributed to smoking or my exaggerated allergies, because my doctor saw no need to do any surgery and just see if they would come and go instead.
