it seems like everyone is using a dual coil. anyone out there just use a single coil? I just ordered my first rda, and I am thinking of just starting with a single. I am sure that I am capable of making a dual. so should I just skip the single? is it just not worth the time to make a single?

it all depends on what you like. I run singles most of the time myself, but doubles can be nice too.
You won't know what you like if you skip stuff, I'd say start with a nice single coil then move up to doubles. Wrapping single will let you learn what # of wraps of what ga wire give you a certain resistance, etc.
making coils is fun, just be safe and don't shoot for super low resistance to start with.

I started off on a single coil, but pretty quickly switched to a dual coil build. It comes down to a matter of preference really.
Also, what rda did you order? Is it one that is fit for a single coil build? Many RDA's only have airflows for a dual coil situation, so you CAN set up a single coil, but it's excessively airy/not really what the RDA was intended for. Alternatively, some RDA's are only fit for single-coil builds (ie: the igo-L). Some RDA's with AFC rings offer both dual coil and single coil airflow.

I really prefer single coil if the RDA air flow supports it. But it really depends on the RDA and how you want to build.
Don't skip single coil builds. Experiment. It is all about what works best for you.
You can get a very nice vape off of a single coil build, what's better just depends on the rda. Single coil is easier to build anyway, just give it a shot. If you aren't satisfied tear it apart and build a dual coil.
Personally speaking and being new to RDA's I am finding for me a single coil works great! As already mentioned I think experimentation is key to find what works for the individual.
I'm a true supporter of the KISS principle. I have tried many devices, tanks, drippers etc, but still prefer regulated (non VV) batteries and single coil. Call me old fashioned...which in vaping is like 2013.

I've been using RBA's, mechanicals, and VV/VW devices for over a year now and have pretty much only ever used single coil builds. If you dial in a good single coil build it will produce more than enough vapor with great flavor. Not to mention they're easier to build as well.
I rememeber when I first started rebuilding I went straight for dual coils and it was such a pain because I could never get them even. But I do the occasional single coil when I don't a hot vape. You could try a dual parallel single coil. IMO those vape like a dual coil setup because it basically is. It would probably be easier than a dual coil too.
Until I honed my coil building skills I got a way better experience off of single coils simply because I didn't have to have the consistency between coils. I still really like single build them quite frequently more does not necessarily mean better. Its just a different experience. Best to play around with different setups to find what YOU prefer
I'm a flavor junkie, I go for single coil not only it produces better flavor (less vapor consequently) but better battery life. Occasionally I use double barrel coil in kayfun just for fun, rebuild my nautilus coil or my kanger/evod coil. I tend to mix my own liquid to get the best flavor for me.
It's pretty much all preference. I started out with a simple single coil with higher gauge kanthal and slowly started experimenting with all types of builds until I found what I liked and enjoyed. I like to stay at 1 ohm for longer battery life but that's just me
try both and see what you like. I use single mainly (sometimes duals) but single coils do all I need.
True, but I just started with single with my mutation X, so I just placed a piece of tape over air holes in no coil in place, it greatly improved the vape experience.
But yes I quickly switched to dual.
Stick to single coils unless (or until) you've got an actual reason to do dual coils. Just my 2 cents.

Yep... I'm a single coil kinda guy. I get the same quality of vapor and my batteries last longer too.
