Two methods I can think of:

  1. Ask the supplier or person you purchased it from.

  2. vape it at 3.2 to 3.7V: If it is XL size and tastes pretty good, but doesn't have much TH, it's probably a dual coil. [IMO, the dual coils work best at 4.0+ volts.] If it tastes good and has great TH, it's probably an LR single coil. If it doesn't have much flavor, vapor, or TH – try to sell it or throw it away (or try it on higher voltage).
FYI: I'm not trying to be a wise guy. That's just all I could think of.

I love the LR dual coils more than any other carto I have tried. I use them between 4.2-4.5 volts. They provide the best flavor, vapor and TH that I have had from any carto. I would be able to tell by the flavor, vapor and TH if it were a single or dual coil easily. I use the 1.5 ohm so they also get very warm and they will normally cut your battery time between charges in about 1/2 so that is another way to tell if you were not able to ask the vendor. I hope that helped you.
Also it is my belief that dual coils only come in XL size so if they are not XL they are not dual coils.
I hope that helped.
