I'm currently in training for a half ironman and expecting a 6+ hour finish and I'm trying to figure out a vape set up to use on race day. for long runs and marathons I carry a gripper mod with a disposable dripper atty and this works out great, though I have recently replaced the disposable with a double cross clone. I've been using drippers since I started vaping and they're what I have found most satisfying, so all I have right now are rda's and mech mods. today I went on a 30 mile bike ride with the gripper/double cross and have come to the conclusion that using a dipper on the bike is a dangerous concept. I'm looking for a better option, something small, lightweight, but with about a 1ml tank, and gives the same kind of performance as an rda on a mech mod. any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Not sure why you would even want to vape during a Marathon but so be it.

For decent flavor and compact size. 18350 mod with a Kayfun in Nano form factor with a 1.6ohm coil and cotton wick.

Fits in hand and is fairly light. Flavor is about as good as a small tank can get.

Should hold about 1.6ml and you may want to carry a spare battery.

I would not use an RDA for that. They make a Kayfun mini but I am not getting one. I have an Evod and Davide mini so if i were to buy one now I'd get an Aerotank mini or a Evod glass. Rebuildables do not lend them selves to things like that IMHO plus the RDA's cost more if you have a mishap. There is also the weight issue. RDAs weigh more.

I was going to suggest something like a Mini Protank II -- if you rebuild the coil to your own specs and wick it with organic cotton, the vape is nearly as good as from a kayfun, if somewhat less intense (especially in the TH dept). And it's quite small, and even though it's glass, fairly lightweight. Holds about 1.5-1.8ml.

I've looked at the kayfun mini, the problem I have with it is at 60mm it's to long to fit in my pocket. I was actually leaning towards the nano, fasttech sells one that is almost entirely plastic, but since I don't have any experience with tanks I'm not sure how reliable that setup is.

Another thing I was thinking about is a cheap ego battery with a clearomizer. The problem is if it didn't short out from my sweat it would probably snap in half. I could also use two different mods. I could put a kayfun on the silver bullet and tape that to my water bottle. Leave it on the bike and put the gripper in my run kit. Swap them out in T2.

If you don't vape tank cracker liquids, it is very reliable, once built properly. In all PMMA it is considerably lighter than a full SS Kayfun.
I suggested Kayfun based on your criteria. More convenient than a dripper, close in flavor production. Anything less will be less substantial.

Comparative experience includes - ce4, nano clearo, ce5, vivi nova, T-2, T3 & mini, T5, Evod, PTI/II, mini did,AGA-S, AGA-T, RSST, Ithaka, Kayfun, Carto's, Carto Tanks, Killer 705 and several types of drippers.
Many, most of these still have a time and place in my rotation. Flavor testing/convenience/work/travel/activities

Same liquids - different devices - different taste and enjoyment

I have a Vision Eternity that does both a tank setup and dripper only. In dripper mode it holds 40 drops of juice and does not leak. It uses eGo T tanks that hold just over 1 ml. I will not go down too low in resistance, but it performs surprisingly well at around 1.8 ohms so it's perfect for a small eGo type battery.

It is a bit on the long side and you mentioned that could be hard for you to carry so I don't know if this is something that will appeal to you but I thought I would mention it anyway. Options are good :). There is a Pbusardo review of the device on the page I linked to.

Reo mini with your choice of atty(bottom fed)....

6ml bottle with an !8490 battery, in one box.
Think of it like your gripper but with a squeezable bottle under the atty....

its a mech, and vapes like a dripper....because that is exactly what it is.

despite what some may think.... a kayfun tank does NOT perform like a dripper.

Don't compromise.

So I went after work and bought a kayfun clone and I can't seem to get it to work. All it does is spit juice in me mouth, with maybe some minimal vapor. I have it built 3/4 wrap 30 gauge around 2mm braided silica running 1.2 ohms.

You didn't give us much information. If it's gurgling when you draw on it, it could be flooded. Turn it upside down, put a paper towel in front of the air hole and blow in the drip tip. If it's flooded the juice will blow out the air hole.

Let us know how that goes.

And some more info would be good. Have you watched a couple of videos on how to build these? When I use silica in a Kayfun I fold it over itself so I have it three fold inside the wick with the tails of the wick plastered on the vertical walls above the juice channels. The devil is in the details :)

It was definitely gurgling but I got it to work now. I had way to much wick and it wasn't positioned right. Like I said I have no experience with tanks. The draw is really tight compared to my drippers and I get maybe half the vapor production, but I get way better flavor from it. Once I get the nano kit I think it will work out very well.
