Disclaimer Please note that I can't yet attest to the safety of this cleaning method and am still working to be assured heptane is removed, since it's a class 3 substance.

Why: One of the ingredients I've been using has a very persistent flavor/smell; Caryophyllene, the terpene behind pepper and others. It is the most persistent smell/taste that has ever infected my atomizers and has laughed at grain alcohol, vodka, soap and water, boiling... It's akin to the worst blueberry vape ever created :)

How: "WD-40 Contact Cleaner, Quick Drying". I gave the tank and all components a light spray in open air outside and let it dry. Then boiled some water to 210F, and floated the tank parts for five minutes. 210 is the boiling point of heptane...

...and for the first time ever... my tanks are totally smell free.

The Material Safety Data Sheet on this stuff is concerning with Heptane as an ingredient. However, it IS a Class 3 (Low Toxicity Potential) chemical and is used in cannibus processing according to several online lab sources and the FDA. It isn't a mutagen and there's no carcinogenic effect. However since water alone isn't sufficient to remove heptane, boiling off is the only method for safe removal. Using a regular strainer in the boiled water keeps the parts from getting f'ed up so far, but then I'm using stainless coils, silicone o'rings, and peek components. But it WORKED.
