Depends what you vape I guess. I vape menthol and peach mostly and my husband can't smell it and he doesn't smoke. My mom vapes tobacco flavors and I can smell it while she's vaping but it doesn't linger and it isn't offensive or anything. Not a lot different than one of candles that smell like birthday cake or some other flavor. Hardly revolting.

You're not smoking. +1 for you. I wouldn't get paranoid about the odor. I really can't imagine anyone complaining about the odor of juice after they put up with the smell of cigarettes. Unless your juice smells like toxic waste or cat pee it has to be better than cigs.

Get off his back, woman!

So menthol and peach for stealth?

I am is a somewhat similar situation to yours.

Firstly, let me start by saying my wife is actually a super hero gifted with the not so desirable and/or practical power of Super Smell. She will detect scents and the nuances of them all as if she was a cat. (note, cats actually have a stronger sense of smell than hound dogs)

At this point, she can even tell the difference if I am vaping Dekang or High Caliber, regardless of the flavor. Needless to say, she can most certainly notice a smell from vaping.

Curiously, while she did not particularly care for Dekang smells, they did not offend her sense much. Now, High Caliber, on the other hand... she was not a fan. As soon as I fired up my brand new bottle of Sin-A-Bun when it arrived, she complained of a very strong chemical taste. For me, that vape actually smelled like a cinnabon, but to her it was quite pungent.

Luckily, smells from vaping rarely ever linger. Most will dissipate in seconds and only a few very strong flavors will stick around for a while. Now, I semi-stealth vape those stronger-smelling juices when I'm around her, or cut them down with a less offensive juice.

PS: The daughter, who inherited my wife's super powers of smell, also mentioned High Caliber juices "smelled weird", but did not seem to be particularly offended by them.

I'm laughing but I think I've turned into your wife. Since I stopped smoking my sense of smell has been amazing.

I don't buy into the idea that it is the PG/VG mix. They have no smell. It has to be the flavor. My BF likes the aroma of my vaping no matter what flavor it is. He likes to try and guess the flavor. No matter what flavor I'm vaping, he likes it much better than the smell of cigarette smoke. He's even said that it makes the room smell like I've just used air freshener when he can smell it at all. Sometimes he can't smell anything. It all depends on the flavor.

She must have had apoplectic fits when you smoked. What did she do, wear a gas mask?

This is a close description of my wife's reaction to cigarette smoke.

Oddly enough, she actually enjoys the aroma of all the flavors I vape, and sometimes goes out of her way to get to the cloud of vapor.

Kind of an odd question, but is the vaping smell generally unpleasant to others? I was under the impression it didn't smell like anything, and I honestly can't smell it myself (not surprisingly). My wife started complaining when I received my new flavors that the smell is strong, "like burnt cigarette filters and incense." (and no, that wasn't the flavor I ordered ) And the taste isn't burnt, like when I over-do a cart and burn it.

After establishing it wasn't just complaining :2cool:, I'm curious if there's a trick to the smell, i.e. does a % of pg/vg, a "boosted" flavor, a sweeter flavor, higher nic content, etc. make a difference?

Don't mean to post a "my foot falls off every time i vape" (exaggerated) kind of medical question, but since I'm still very-much a newbie, I figured it couldn't hurt to ask and there might be something I'm simply not aware of.
I think your wife just has PTSD from the smoking, so anything remotely looking like you're smoking, she'll complain about. The smell of what you're vaping doesn't seem to linger for very long and doesn't really travel very far, but it is there, so I'd say move back a couple of feet, or start vaping her favorite dessert. :)

I've been vaping Banana Split in the house for 3 days because it's nearly 100 outside with 80% dewpoint and every time I walk near my desk, it smells like a Dairy Queen, and then all I think about is wanting to go to the Dairy Queen.

It's definitely the flavoring that causes the smell. Some are much stronger than others - I've noticed that anything I make with Capella Flavor Drops lingers forever (but its very pleasant, as Swedishfish said - like a candle).

It's funny you should mention that because my dog gets really eager and attentive to me when I vap. I think she find it fascinating. But maybe in her mind it's similar enough to watching people eat for her to find it interesting.

Dogs have a heightened sense of smell so your dog smells the flavor even more than we mere humans. I'll bet your dog thinks your eating something that smells really good and wants a lick.

First kit I bought came with some prefilled carts of tobacco flavor. I still hadn't regained my sense of smell from quitting analogs yet so I didn't notice much but my 5 year old son asked me what that smell was. I asked him what he thought it smelled like. "Bad pancakes!" was his answer lol. I think he meant burnt, and having tried the same kind again recently just for comparison to my juice, I gotta agree with him. I haven't found any tobacco flavors that I'm a huge fan of the smell unless they're combined with another flavor.

yes the tobacco flavors DO have a smell to them. my wife says that my WOW Kamel from V4L smells like a candle, my boss says it smells like cotton candy, a friend says it just has a "sweet" smell...weird huh? :D
