Short introduction:
The New Fortis Kit is basically the natural evolution of the tried and tested Thallo & Thallo S mod-Pod Kit, updated with a TFV18 Mini tank with 510 thread. Fortis is powered by a single external 18650/21700 battery. The maximum power is 100W (21700 cell) with a "firing" speed of only 0.001s.
The chipset communicates with a very bright and colorful 0.96 "TFT color screen.

Smok Fortis Kit; First impressions:
Compared to the small Rigel Mini 18650 which had a lightweight build, Fortis Mod (18650-21700) takes on a more robust shape thanks to a greater presence of aluminum alloy in the frame. Basically Fortis is a "Drag style" Mod with the same level of good finishes but slightly larger. The Tank TFV18-mini is a scaled-down reproduction of its big brother (TFV18) but uses the "V" series coils which are slightly smaller.

This kit is not the most compact on the market to use a 21700 battery, however it is not overly large and is balanced in weight and size, which makes it quite rewarding to hold, plus its overall appearance is quite captivating.

Smok Fortis Kit; Screen and handle:

The front of Fortis protrudes. The Fire key has a square shape of good size and is easily accessible, the "+" and "-" adjustment keys are arranged above a rocker and are located under the screen, near the socket Type-C charging station.
The display is a Smok classic, sufficiently large, bright and with 6 colors of choice for the background. The display shows all the information useful for Vaping; Battery charge residual level and%, set power, lock/unlock symbol (padlock), duration of the single puff, coil value (Ω), Volt and puff counter.

On the back the dominant theme is the beautiful leather decoration with vertical stitching with the hot stamped "Smok" branding.

Smok Fortis Kit; Side view:
The adhesive QR code (to be detached) with which the product is delivered is visible on the side. Below you can see the writing (Smok on one side and Fortis on the other). The metal frame is screwed to the mod via two French screws and precisely and elegantly surrounds the imitation leather decoration.

Smok Fortis Kit; 510 thread and batteries:
The upper part of the Fortis Mod sees the presence of a 510 cup with floating pin, the cup is screwed to the mod via three Torx screws and is slightly raised to avoid scratches when screwing / unscrewing the tanks. Incredibly large sprayers can be installed, at least up to 32m in diameter without protrusions.

The method of accessing the compartment / battery is of the "push and slide" type with the positive pole facing inwards. The Fortis Mod as already mentioned offers a wide choice of 18650, 20700 or 21700 batteries.

TFV18-Mini:

Smok's wide range of sub-ohm TFV tanks have always been characterized by using high quality stainless steel and Pyrex glass, this version is slightly smaller than the original giant TFV18 but retains an interesting 6.5 e-liquid capacity. ml.

The tank can be completely disassembled for careful periodic cleaning of all its components. The knurling around the base and the top-cap is very useful for easily unscrewing the deck from the tank, and a large amount of spare orings are also available in the kit.

Starting from the top there is a replaceable Delrin drip tip with a large hole (10mm). The Drip-Tip fits over the double O rings incorporated in the top-cap and measures approximately 12mm in height.

TFV18-Mini; Refil & AFC:
The top sliding filling mechanism includes child safety, so you must press the button and turn the top-cap counterclockwise. The refill slot is large (12 x 4mm) and does not provide any membrane to protect this port in my sample. On the bottom there is the plated / gold pin that conducts the current to 5 copper braces inside the base to better conduct the current to the coil.

The AFC system has 3 adjustable slots of 10x3.5mm each, these slots are able to pass a considerable air flow and to direct it quickly towards the coil for a rather satisfying RDL / DL vape.

TFV18-Mini; Platform Coil:
Everyone knows the great ability of "Mesh" type coils to spread heat over a much larger area of cotton than traditional "spiral coils" This solution has proven to be the best for an excellent perception of flavor and for production of great clouds of vapor. For this reason Smok makes great use of it on its Sub-ohm tanks. The coils of the TFV18 Mini have been slightly reduced in size compared to the incredibly large ones of the TFV16 and TFV18 tanks, however we are talking about rather large coils on this version too. During the start-up phase of a new heating element it is therefore mandatory to moisten the cotton abundantly with e-liquid before using it to avoid dry burns.

Operation Guide:
• After changing the battery, the display shows the choice 18650/21700, Press the "+" or "-" buttons to select the battery type and long press the Fire button to confirm. If it was a 18650 battery, the maximum output is 80W; if it was a 21700 battery, the maximum output is 100W.
• Power on / off: 5 clicks on the Fire button.
• Power setting: Press the "+" or "-" buttons to select the power level within 5W-80W in steps of 1W at a time.
• Press the "+" and "-" buttons simultaneously to lock or unlock the power adjustment function.
• Device Lock / Unlock: Quickly press the Fire key three times
• Cut / off: Do not vaporize for more than 8 seconds. A TIME OVER notification will occur if the vape exceeds 8 seconds.
• Puff Clear: Press the Fire and "-" keys simultaneously to enter the function.
• The puff number is automatically canceled when 9999P is reached.
• Theme color settings: Press the Fire and "+" keys simultaneously to change colors.

Protections and warnings:
• BATTERY LOW: The battery voltage is less than 3.3V ± 0.1V before vaping.
• POWER OFF: The battery voltage is less than 3.1V ± 0.1V before vaping.
• OHMS TOO LOW: Resistance is less than 0.1Ω ± 5% in WW mode.
• OHMS TOO HIGH: Resistance is greater than 2.5Ω ± 5% in WW mode.
• NO COIL DETECTED: The atomizer has not been detected.
• ATOMIZER SHORT: A short circuit has been detected.
• PCBA TOO HOT: The temperature of the PCBA is too high and the high temperature protection starts.
• TIME OVER: The single Puff exceeds 8 seconds.
• POWER LOCKED: The vaping function is locked (you cannot activate it when it is locked).
• POWER UNLOCKED: The vaping function is unlocked.
• WATTAGE LOCKED: The power adjustment function is locked (the power cannot be changed when the function is locked).
• WATTAGE UNLOCKED: The wattage adjustment function is unlocked.

Final conclusions:
Fortis by Smok is an entry level kit with excellent finishes, very nice to look at but also cheap to buy.

It is not excessively bulky and works well, its chipset contains the DC-DC converter which with an output voltage higher than the input allows the Step-Up with semi-discharged battery. So the mod lends itself to be used profitably even with MTL atomizers with high resistances and without voltage drops during the battery discharge phase.
Battery management with a 21700 cell allows for very long vaping sessions, even at rather high wattages. The power seems to be actually the one set and that we can read on the display.

The TFV 18-Mini Tank is a high performance sub-ohm atomizer, in the kit there are 2 0.2Ω Mesh Coil V18 Mini, one is pre-installed in the tank and the other is for spare use. This resistance has a range of use from 40 to 80W with a best indicated by Smok corresponding to 60W. The great reaction speed of the Mesh allows me to use it at "only" 50W at a profit. TVF18-Mini in terms of dense cloud production and flavor is excellent. I don't find big differences compared to the mammoth original TFV18, on the contrary on the TFV18-Mini the flavor seems even more concentrated perhaps thanks to a more precise AFC adjustment. TFV18-mini also seems less prone to e-liquid leaks. For these reasons I would like to recommend this Kit and I congratulate Smok.
