The main thing you are looking for when you test a coil is short-circuits; to the cap, to the base - something like that. Any meter can detect that.

If you are making coils at 0.6 and above a DMM will do fine and i recommend you do that to begin with. When i build coils i'm looking for that and also an accurate measurement of resistance, because i want to be sure i leave enough wriggle room for battery safety.

So don't give up just cos you got one duff meter - get another!

Something random that i find interesting anyway is that if you indeed bought the AW 1600mAh batteries Reosmods has long touted, they outperform all but a few of the more recent batteries. They have a 24A limit and that means a 0.175Ω coil as an absolute minimum.
Even i don't tempt fate like that.

RTDvapor said that yes, it is defective and sending another. I have no intention of going below .5Ω and even don't plan to go that low. I have the aw 1600s and just bought some of the new aw 2200s. After using genesis attys with mesh for a year.. I'm very familiar with shorts LOL

All this information it got me wondering about my Smok meter, so today I picked up a Garderner Bender digital multimeter (about $5.00 more than the Smok) and set off to test my build on both. The digital multimeter read the build as a .7 ohm's build and the Smok meter read .6 ohm's. I know their maybe a little user error on my part since it was the first time I had used a traditional multimeter but I am very happy with the results.

For me I think about .4 ohm's would be as low as I would go and think either way is a good way to test your build as long as you are not super-sub ohming. Anyways it was probably a little moot at this point but a fun "experiment" none the less. And now I have a pretty cool mutlimeter to use around the house should I ever do any electrical work.

I love Randy/RTD..they are top notch! I have a smok omnimeter too and at first, it was awesome. I too have noticed a jump around, all over thing. Like major jumping around. So I plugged it in the computer with the USB port and charged I again and it seems to be working well. If I keep it plugged in and read my coils, it works even better.

I just don't thing they hold a charge very long.
