Smok TFV4 Dual Coil RBA Wicking Issues

I've had the Smok TFV4 Mini for about two weeks now, and purchased the dual coil RBA to build dual titanium coils on. However, I've been having a hell of a time getting the wicking right despite following some suggestions elsewhere, and have been consistently getting very low vapor and bad taste (dry hit with TC). For reference, I'm running dual Ti-01 coils, 8 wraps, 2mm id wicked with japanese cotton.

I've tried putting the cotton in the coil and screwing the top on to score the cotton then cutting there as mentioned in one YouTube video, but still had dry hits. I tried cutting even with the deck so the cotton simply sits above the juice channels, but still had dry hits. I've tried running a bit of cotton into the juice channels, and still got dry hits! I've tried juicing the wick before placing, after placing, and not at all, and can't seem to get it right as no matter what I end up with dry hits.

Any other suggestions to make the dual coil RBA work? I never have any issues with my Billow v2, Goliath, Lemo 2, Aromamizer RDTA, Subtank, Orchid or any other tank, but this one has me stumped.

Thanks and have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I also have the TFV4 both the single and dual rba. 2 cents ....ing hate the rba's their .... quality. Back to the help. The wick needs to be trimmed where its thinner on the channels as well as makeing the length of the tail EXACTLY the length of the first channel before the space and then the other channel. Its hard to explain you see on the rba theres the juice channel then theres a gap and then another channel. The wick has to stop before hitting that gap. Thats VERY important. The gap lets air out. Then the tail tips need to be trimmed to the exact sites of the channel opening. When you screw that cap on it mashes down the cotton in that channel which will restrict the flow so cut and thin that out where the cap goes on without smashing any wick down. God i wish i was better at explaining if this helps at all. If not ill try to help better.

Thanks for the input! As far as dry hits with TC, TC doesn't prevent dry hits, it prevents burnt hits. When my tank isn't wicking properly I get low vapor production and a dry, cottony hit, but the cotton doesn't burn. Don't know what makes you think temperature control could prevent that, but I think you're misunderstanding the capabilities of TC, as it still requires proper wicking to deliver enough juice to the coil.

Thanks,

Hi there first time poster here, so this post has literally saved me from complete and utter insanity, I've been sub ohming for some time, had various different set ups in the past and always been a kind of closet forum stalker for various info when need be. I have signed up to this my first forum just to say thank you to firstly treeburner1983 for asking the same question I've been asking my self since xmas, and secondly olderdrake for giving the tip about the juice channel letting un air. Looking back pretty obvious but for some reason evaded me time and time again, somtimes even after a couple of hits my coils have ended up dryer than ghandi's flip flop. So thank you guys for stating th obvious and as I said stopping me from being admitted in the near future

The tfv rba is just plain tricky to get to wick....I have had all the same problems.....ya want a lot of cotton on top of the deck to prevent leaking and a Lil cotton in the juice well to help it wick properly.... hope this helps( I build dual coils in the single coil rba ) this has worked the best for me...no leaks no dry hits .54 ohms I vape it at 55 watts.
