On a whim (and a bout of shinyitis) I picked up an Ipv 3li and smok tfv4 tonight. I noticed the bottom of the smok getting warm after just 1 or 2 draws around 70 watts. Is this normal or is there something I need to be checking to make sure there is no issues? This is my first foray into high wattage as I have been around 40 watts max with my Subtank minis and sigelei 75. I never noticed them heating up. I am using the triple coil it came with.

What is the resistance and what wattage are you vaping at? Some tank just get hot.

.21, 70 watts. 2 test hits around 30 seconds apart and the base of the tank was extremely warm.

First experience with higher wattages and lower resistances. Normally I am .5 and around 35 watts on my Sigelei 75 and Subtank mini. Just checking to see if this is normal or something I need to fix.

Thats fairly normal. With higher wattages and lower resistances, its going to get warm like that. Think about it like this...when you have a lower resistance it means that you are using thicker wire, so its going to hold heat longer. When you keep using it the heat is just going to rise and rise.
Even though you have a long gap between firing, it still has a lot more residual heat than a thinner gauge wire. Much like when a stove is on high and still hot after you turn it off, even after 5 minutes (an electric stove literally uses the same principle as ecigs, but on a larger scale).

Cool, just making sure as I am not trying to set myself on fire anytime soon. Jumping into sub ohm was fairly simple with my Kanger setup but all of the nuances of high wattage make me realize I have a lot more to learn.

Thank you for the input.

It is a learning curve, and you'll see more and more products coming out with the air flow drip tips since more products advertise their products to hit at higher wattages. Honestly, if you build you own coils and use thicker gauge wire with more wraps you will get a higher resistance with better results due to the increased surface area. At least, that is the case for me.
