Smoke detectors and vapes

Will a vape set off a smoke detector? I'm assuming that because it is just an aerosol, and not smoke that it might not?

I'm totally unsure and while staring at my dorms smoke detector I'm a little weary.

It can depends on the detector but yes it's possible.

In otherwords, yes, it can. However, it does take some pretty thick clouds to set one off. If you aren't fogging up the room you shouldn't have a problem.

I've got a home smoke alarm less than 10' from where I vape in the den and have never set it off. It might go off if I blew a cloud right into it but I'm not trying that right now.

Optical smoke detectors CAN be tripped by the vapor. Ionization smoke detectors should not. General rule, but there are exceptions.

Like the time last winter when someone on here convinced me to vape with my head in the freezer to see if I could make icicles form on my beard, I'm tempted to try this...but my smoke alarm is hard-wired to my daughter's room and my neighbor's unit, so I'm resisting the urge...

Epic fail. So bad it's not even pic-worthy. If I'm still up around 3 a.m. Pacific I'll blow into the fire alarm and see if I can get a snap of the chaos that ensues, however...

Was in a bar once with a bunch of guys vaping and it set off the detector. This was before the ban in LA but they did have to stop vaping by request of the bar.
