I liked chemistry (at a high school level class, anyway) but I could never get the hang of calculus. I did good on all the math classes leading up to calculus, but I just couldn't handle it. It may have been due to taking a several year break in-between the other math classes and calc., or the busy schedule of working, having teen age daughters each involved in activities, and going to school.
Anyway, hang in there with your studies!
I did very well in Calculus with 10 yr break between starting it and last official "math" 10 yrs before in middle school. I self taught trig and geometry summer before starting calculus and had honed some basic algebrsa skills in college chemistry.
I NOT SO HUMBLY THINK IT WAS YOUR LIFE OF CONSTANT INTERRUPTIONS and responsibilities that probably hindered your excelling in higher mathematics. After the first couple years of too much partying instead of studying while parents footed the bill, a couple years break, settling down a bit and me footing the bill AND HAVING THE LUXURY of few responsibilities and no interuptions studying ..... I think those things made a huge difference.

I had 34 years between intro algebra and precalc with nothing in between except teaching myself what I needed to help my kids. My placement test pushed me past advance algebra and geometry. Chemistry is fun, but I'm finding it more of a challenge than precalc.
You're too kind. But those were some crazy years. One daughter in ballet with classes and rehearsals 5 or 6 days a week, the other in competitive gymnastics with classes and practices 4 days a week. I was going into work at 6 a.m. so I could get off in time to drive them to their classes after school. Fortunately I was already well established in a career with an employer where the class and further degree would not have made any difference, so I wisely chose to drop the class after about 4 weeks into the semester.
Wow, that's quite an accomplishment on the placement test results!
