http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0689370/I thought this quote was appropriate for the occasion.

"...I am not going to sit on my ... as the events that affect me unfold to determine the course of my life. I'm going to take a stand. I'm going to defend it. Right or wrong, I'm going to defend it..."

Cameron (Ferris Bueller's Day Off)

I can't even imagine the 80's without his movies. Graduated high school in '86 and those movies helped me realize I wasn't the only weirdo on the planet :). It took me months of talking to get my son to watch Breakfast Club when he was about 13 and full of that "I'm the only one who feels this way" teen angst. Once I got him to sit down and watch it he was hooked. It was a great bonding experience. He and his friends still watch it on a regular basis and I get to watch it with them sometimes when they're not being too cool to hang out with mom. Another upshot is that after that when I tell him he should watch a movie and he tries to shoot me down I can say "remember when I told you to watch Breakfast Club" and he shuts up and takes my advice. Wish that worked on other things :).

My husband and I are both big John Hughes fans. Although in all honesty, I don't know many people our age (44) that didn't love his movies back then. My oldest daughter (17) loves The Breakfast Club. There are so many little "lessons" in his movies. The day/evening of Aug. 6th, I watched my favs: Weird Science, 16 Candles, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and The Breakfast Club.

Applejackson,

Thanks!

Everytime I see your posts, I look at your avatar and it makes me think your playing pinball. Is that what your doing in that pic?:D

Heh. Nope. I'm just sitting smoking an analog. The lighting was very dim and red causing the auto camera to keep the lens open longer which is why there's a ghost image of my arm going up to the cigarette in my mouth. It's in my old bedroom. I had no pinball machine, but I wish I did!
