Smoking banner box warning . . .

Guys,

I've not read through all of this thread, but I will when I get a chance.

I'm pretty disheartened by some of the stuff that I read.

I'm the creator of the 'I've been vaping since...' banners. I am a sponsoring supplier on this forum. My banner tool collects no personal information other than your IP address (which is logged on ANY webstie you visit), which is used to drive my e-cig map tool.

I'm a software developer by trade, and I like creating what I think are useful tools. There is nothing malicious in my banner tool. Yes, it does drive traffic to my site, and raises awareness of my existence - but that's the extent of it.

How good for my e-cigs business would it be if I changed the image to 'Get your e-cigs at Smoke Without Fire'? Not very would be answer....

Anyway, like I said, I wanted to post something now and perhaps reply in more detail to any other concerns when I read this thread later in the week (I'm off to India for 3 weeks, so I'll do it when I get there!)

Have to disagree. The URL goes to HTML, the image is superfluous. Your eCigSavings.html is under your control and as a software developer you know you could make that do anything you want.

Y2K? WTF?

I'm glad that you are a sponsoring supplier. SJ did not tell me you were a sponsoring supplier in my original PM's to him about this. In any case, how about sharing the FLEX/PHP code with SJ so that ECF can have it's own banner? How about putting your site name on the ad?

Pepper has a rather useful map so we can all see where the e-smokers are that have the banner, he(or is it she) looks to resell some of Pillbox38's electronic cigarettes for a few quid more than pillbox himself does however, the shipping is free or £2 for recorded delivery.

--EDIT-- he doesn't sell the penstyle which is rather odd

Disagree with what?? Again, if I were to inject some nasty hack into the HTML page that people CHOOSE to visit, I would be caught very quickly and my business would be destroyed. Not really the smartest plan. You could levy the same argument at absolutely any link posted on this site, so I really can't defend myself any further. I guess people will need to take the crazy risk of choosing to visit the creation tool or not.

If you guys in interested in engaging with my web development company to discuss a banner tool then feel free to contact me. My site is Croy International - Rich Internet Application Specialists. I'd be more than happy to hear from you. I'm planning on releasing a new advanced version of the banner later this month (I'll have plenty of time to work on it whilst in India).

I didn't want to cover the banner in an ad, I didn't want to throw my name in front of everyone. I thought people would prefer that.

The Y2K thing was a bit of a tangent.

No I don't, and I don't have the Titan, the black super mini, the pink mini or 0mg carts either. How's that for an advert? :)

I started vaping in August 2008 and loved it, I reckoned I could sell a bunch of devices to friends and colleagues so I contacted TECC about setting up as a reseller. I've been building my business slowly and through my own money. Every time I sell something on the site the money is reinvested into carrying different products and bulking up my inventory. Once I've got my core stock up to a decent level I'll be adding more models, more flavours, strengths and Totally Wicked Liquids.

When you take P&P into account my shop should compare quite favourably to other respectable e-cig sites. I have considered publishing lower prices and adding P&P on top, but I always prefer shops to show me the total cost of things up front without adding on P&P at the checkout.

P.S. I'm a he

Indeed, and at the time that I announced the banners I immediately put extra steps in place to ensure that the page that you create the banners on is clearly marked as a supplier site, with links to the shop etc.

The banners aren't supposed to directly advertise my site. If people choose to go and create a banner themselves then I get to advertise to them, but otherwise I'm not littering this, and other forums around the world with adverts. The banners were supposed to be useful standalone little things that people could use in sigs. I guess I was really naive about the whole thing, and I have to be honest I do keep finding myself wondering if I should just pull the plug on them. It seems that as soon as you have something to sell, everybody and their dog thinks you are out to pull a fast one on them.

Noooo don't get rid of them, I guess quite a few of us forget that suppliers are just human too!! It could be much worse, imagine going to the forums and watching adverts about non e-cig related stuff such a Pharie washing up liquid and all those ads you see on telly with that horrible minimalist *OMG our crap is saving the planet* music with banjos in that TV spamvertisers seem to be into right now!! Ohh no it could be even worse than that! Everytime you turn on your computer it reminds you that Microsoft are going to send you a new viewing card this month and that together if we switch our computers into standby we could save half the planet!!

Ohh dear that sounds a bit like Sky doesn't it!

I don't get it. Why is someone who makes a profit automatically dishonest? If you don't like a price, don't pay it, but to imply that someone who makes money is dishonest just highlights your ignorance...

Ignorance should probably be your catch phrase here Elendil...This thread is actually about the banner your sporting on your post? Keep up the good work there Sherlock... You should probly start a watchdog group thread or something

Uh Oh. Drewsworld is back in orbit. Well almost, he's not quite as livid as he can get, yet.

For Drew: Send me any complete product you have, from any manufacturer, even if it's broken and run over by a truck, or space-craft (in your case) and I will send you even my most expensive product for $50*, shipped. Don't send me your cartridges, Eccch! At least I have all products in stock and am there for customer service!

*$50 does not reflect my costs at all. I still stand by my previous challenge: Sign a non-disclosure agreement and you can see my accounting books, even with your own accountant. Then you can call me names, again. Until then, you can have an opinion, but to call me "dishonest" here is crossing the line, even for you.

Now what did you say about this thread being about the banner?
