So I read just a minute ago in a thread for support of someone quitting analogs that a good thing to do was write a pro/con list of each. Well, I agree. This is a tried and true method of motivation under any circumstances. What I didn't agree with was that "The smoking pro list should remain blank" that's not going to be the case for me. I would like to share my list with everyone, and I'd love for everyone to share theirs with me!

here it is!

Smoking:

Pro's:

  • Goes great with coffee
  • Excellent stress reducer
  • Feels good
  • Gives me something to do (in my hands)
  • actually helps with my diet by decreasing my appetite

Cons:

  • Smells horrible
  • I have to hide it from my in-laws
  • Has stained my teeth
  • Very unhealthy
  • Makes me feel bad because I have a 2 year old son
  • Makes me cough in the mornings, sometimes to the point of breathlessness.
  • Gives me a lot of sore throats
  • Expensive
  • I have one working lung, and am constantly scared I am killing myself
  • Makes it hard to exercise for long periods of time (cant dance like I used to)

vaping:

Pro's:

  • Tastes Delicious
  • Healthier than smoking
  • Easily becomes a new and fun hobby (EG: Fun to use)
  • The vapor seems to clear out my lungs better than cold quitting
  • It never gets boring because there are so many flavors
  • Feels nice
  • Huge support community involved

Cons:

  • I constantly want more. More more more. Juices, attys, styles. adds up $$$(in the end it seems just barely cheaper than cigs depending on your brand. You get obsessed and need to try everything!)
  • Occasionally I am made to feel silly for using such an arcane device.
  • You are still dependent on nicotine, so if your device breaks, or you lose it, or something goes wrong, it's all too easy to go back to analogs.
Well it seems for me it's a close call.. But vaping does win in the end! Your turn!

Hi Sallana, here is a post they made about what's in an analog, it's awesome!

These things should be printed out, most smokers have not read everything that's in them. Many have asked me before about how I'm gonna quit if I'm using ecigs. I have a feeling that many in the general population may think that analogs only have nicotine and perhaps just a tad of tar and a couple other things.

I agree that smoking seems to be a better stress reliever. I don't know why that is, but it's the hardest part of quitting for me.

The other area where the smoke beats the vape is when I take a break. If I head outside with a pyro, it's good as long as I don't do something dumb like drop it in a puddle, or accidently break it in half or something. If I head outside with my 510, I can run out of juice, go back inside and refill, and head back outside only to find that a couple puffs later my batty is dead. So I either need to get a couple mods, or carry more stuff out with me. With a smoke, for a whole day, I need 1 pack and a lighter. With my 510, I need 3 batts, a spare atty, and a bottle of juice.

Not really complaining. Just pointing out the con side that e-cigs are more work.

I think vaping has all the pro's to smoking you listed there. Except maybe the 'goes great with coffee'.
Still new, but coffee and a cigarette are just awesome together. But maybe somebody can point out a flavor that compliments coffee the way a regular cigarette does, then that entire pro smoking list is null and void.

I thought of another "Pro" aspect of e-cigs. It's a lot easier to take a few drags and just set it down. I used to smoke just 1/2 a cig at once -- not too practical when driving though. You don't have to knock the cherry off your e-cig to save it for later.

Come to think of it, it won't burn my upholstery either.

All I would ever need to know never to go back to analogs. Thanks for the reminder.
