I have this mental image of Arnie sitting at the computer with an ashen, slack expression thinking... WHAT HAVE I DONE?????

:D

(All I know 'bout "sub ohm" is when somebody brings up the topic... duck!)

Hah! How did you know?:ohmy::D

I'm having a great time reading this stuff. Didn't know the DNA20 could do sub-ohm.

Only problem is getting a PV with a dna-20 in it. But it does have both an amp & watt limit, so you still cant do CSO ("crazy" sub ohm)

Oh and Buzz, I never said it can't be enjoyed by some. I just said it was stupid from my point of view because I can get the vape I want without going there.

I actually had no idea either until I watched Phil Busardo do a review of the OPUS mod w/ the DNA 20 and he did a comparison between it the provari, vamo(I think) and some other vv/vw mods and It was the only one that didn't get an error mesage when vaping in the low resistances. Thats the only thing I really liked about the OPUS (and the cyborg I think?) DNA 20, because I don't think many variable mods have that ability. If you get a chance you should check it out! :) http:/..................../wordpress/2013/05/11/the-opus-and-dna-20-review/

So why is this practice fairly common? I don't know anyone who does it. Sub ohm lends itself to mech mods, which are not limited by power regulation, which is precisely what Atty was saying. You aren't making a lick of sense...

I've been vaping on a DNA20D Bottom Fed Bogger Box at .65Ohm 20 Watts, it's a great Vape.

Yeah, but the point is that currently you're in the 1% or less club.

For the most part, sub-ohm is currently mechs. And thus, less control over consistency for Arnie's list. And the "Less control" part is attributed to the mech, not to the ohms. But is correct most of the time. Also, with the higher drains of sub-ohm it becomes apparent faster.

Basically, you can't attribute more consistency to sub-ohms, since winding your own coils can be done with higher ohms too. Same with the DNA boxes....can be used at higher ohms too as are many other regulated devices even the low watt ones.

Also, "what vape you like" is not attributed to sub-ohms either. Some may not like it.

I can't think of any significant pros for sub-ohm. But tj and I were brothers in a previous life.

It boils down to wattage at this time. Subohm mech vaping is the most common and affordable way to get high wattages. In the end nothing replaces wattage.

It's like engine displacement, and we currently have no vaping equivalent to forced induction or nitrous.

The only hole in that is that the wattage required is totally dependent on device used. ie: I would never run an A7 at the same wattage as a Gennie, which has completely different requirements than say an igo, and so on. There is simply no one correct wattage. You can find atties that will make smoke come out your ears at 8 watts, while you can't even taste others yet at 12 watts.

Oh-and, no nitrous yet, but we do have dual port, and even quad ports

    I think of it like:

You can use a Mack truck (big rig) to pull a single VW, but it's overkill. How much vapor per second do you need? Like tj is saying, it depends on the coil. Plenty of coils can deliver tons of vapor at normal watts. If you want to waste the watts, it's a free country. But I haven't found it to be tons better.

To be fair, I haven't experimented very much either. Mostly because I have no motivation to do so.

    Still, to each their own.

When you optimize for vapor production, there is no replacement for watts. Design elements only account for so much. There is no one correct wattage, but more is more. You simply will hit a limit at any given wattage; at the end of the day, power vaporizes juice. If you want to vaporize more juice, at a certain point you will need more power, and there's no getting around that.

It's a matter of preference if you want to vaporize that much juice, but it is a very significant thing subohm mech vaping does.

I suppose you could combine vaping with nitrous ... :p

As flammable as nitrous is, I don't think so.

Personally, My sweet spot is "Low Resistance" at between 1.5 and 1.8 ohms at between 7 and 8 watts...

Sometimes when building coils for my AGA-T I wind up with what looks like a perfect coil, but it measures 0.7 to 1.1 ohms.

Technically I would consider anything that is at 1.2 ohms or less (i.e., won't fire on most vv/vw APVs) as a sub-ohm coil.

However, if I can out it on a mechanical mod with a fresh IMR battery (the eFest 2000 mah are also rated at 10 amps continuous draw BTW) and work out the hot spots, I'd just as soon go ahead and vape it, rather than go through the hassle of building another coil...

That said, my preference runts to flavor and throat hit, and less vapor. Thus, most of my juice runs around 70% to 80% PG

I don't drill out the air holes of my RBAs or RDAs because I prefer a tighter rather than airy draw...

It all comes down to preference... Which has been said many, many, MANY times in this thread.

I was a bit skeptical of the whole sub ohm scene.. until I actually went out and tried it. I picked up a fused K100 and a RSST with some 28g

first coil was 1.3 ohms.. vape was good. The coil was all wonky, so when I redid it, I dropped it down a little and got a .8 ohm coil.

I've vaped evods, vivis, carts, T3s, some RDAs and some drippers, and that .8 RSST gives an incredible vape that the others can't match. I've only put NETs in it, and the experience is like smoking some really fine tobacco out of a pipe, without the whole getting cancer and stinking up the house part. HHV Legend is awesome in the thing.

But if it's not your thing, cool.

Thank you. I am familiar with your sub-ohm vaping ways, Tom. I view you as an authority on the subject. Is this practice common, and I am just unaware?

    Tapped out

    Hobbyist Yes, Expert No

There are 4 vape shops within a 15 minute drive.
In every vape shop the majority of the workers are vaping Mechanicals with Sub Ohm Coils.

At this point in time the DNA20D Units are exorbitantly expensive and hard to get. It's not common knowledge that they will do Sub Ohm Vaping, my experience is that I can go down to .61 Ohm. Below that and it just ceases to function. Whether others are using it at Sub Ohm, I don't know.

My opinion is that due to the thicker wire in low Gauge Kanthal A1 the vape is smoother and less hot. That's a opinion and a preference, I'm very aware that others have different tastes and there is no right or wrong where taste is concerned.

Telling my experience and opinion doesn't mean that they I'm representing myself as an expert. !

Last night I was trying a few things and got mine to fire a .58 coil!
