I know they're (usually) adult women, but the barely post-pubescent look is creepy and deliberate and raises red flags to quite a few folks with Western sensibilities. Then again, I've been called the anti-otaku by my co-workers.

Western sensibilities? Um, go look up the top selling "adult" costumes......
Besides, cosplay, for those into it, isn't about that at all. There's also the adorable/cute factor (big in Asian culture) and the costumes themselves.
If someone is made uncomfortable by an adult female who has a youthful appearance.....i say the issue lies somewhere in that person, and it's wrong to project that onto other people
