Yeah, if I recall correctly, at the time of construction, the main tank had the thickest glass 'wall' ever made.
I know nothing about service in USMC, but can't you find a job locally? No one in security industry there is looking for good and experienced people?

Don't know about thickest but it was the largest single piece of glass for an aquarium at the time.
I could find something local but I have too many years in civil service to just toss away

Start putting a bug in peoples ears :D

Already have.

Would you stay if you had the option?

YEP. Made the decision a long time ago that this is home.

If I can't get a position back here then I'll be putting in for an early retirement as soon as I'm eligible.

I could be wrong, but I do believe it was the largest and therefore the thickest. They were gluing together huge blocks and it was a PITA for engineers and physicists, to figure out how to put it all together, so the seams can't be seen and light passess through the thing with as little distortion as possible.

Ah, well, like I said... I know jack all about civil service or how it all works. Best of luck though!
