I remember hearing very similar criticisms when I got into computers back in the 70s and 80s and 90s. We had our own language...and terms...and culture. We "chatted" and IM'd....I used it to store information...got into clubs with folks. Even when the internet first came out we were criticized. Its just a trumped up calculator..its for playing games...whats a web address or IRC or a j-peg? Normal, mainstream people will never get into this. And yet...here we are.....this is no different...except, and I believe this strongly...this..saves lives and improves the quality of life for thousands if not millions.

Jason Smith..., I am new here too. I also lurked on the boards years ago...when I tried an e-cig alike give-a-way that I hated. I cancelled my subscription and was NOT screwed, btw. I too was daunted by all the new lingo and the plethora of information that I got. I gave up pretty quick.

Fast forward to today. A lot more people are vaping now and actually my parents got me back in e-cigs...er vaping. What am I using? A very SIMPLE not expensive set up that is a tank, a changeable bottom tank coil, a charger like for your phone, and a battery. The whole set up cost about 50.00 and that was two batteries (1000mah, meaning you don't have to charge it as often) 4 tanks (to hold liquid) and the USB charging wire...will work with a CPU or you can use your cell phone plug in adapter to plug into wall. PM me if you want to know where everything came from... It is extremely easy to use, I don't have to rebuild anything (coils are just over a dollar a piece), and it feels very similar to smoking. Maybe that isn't enough for you? Go to a local vape shop, or here where I live it would be a tobacco shop that sells vaping supplies and ask to try some out. You just might be pleasantly surprised.

Just bite the bullet and ask when you need to ask questions. Everyone here seems really happy to help!

I am not sure of all the hate to OP as well. Have we all never faced issues in the beginning.
I can completely agree to OP's viewpoints. Before I became a vapor in March, I tried reading about e-cig a year or so ago, but the terminology and supposedly the complexity scared me away. I was not able to understand half the words. Ofcourse this time around I was more determined and hence everything seems simple. But I guess not every smoker is determined to quit, but given an alternative every smoker Would like to quit in my experience that is.

More flies with honey OP.
It seems all your time lurking has festered some pretty mighty spite. I sense this spite comes from the success you see the COMMUNITY having, all the while, you more than likely continue to smoke. I still receive no information/questions from your rants of hate for us.

Let me wait for some responses from you, while I drip 12mg into my RDA @0.47 ohms on my mech mod.

Be nice, as it's only you (and possibly others) dying quicker from continued smoking.

I am not sure of all the hate to OP as well.

Not sure that the responses to the OP can be classified as hate. It's a little tough ( and judgemental ) to hate someone you've never met face to face

Granted, the OP said they didn't understand all the terminology and finger pointed at certain youtubers. Basically attacked what many here consider a lifestyle.

Perhaps instead of lashing out, the OP could have done what so many of us here have. And that's take the time to learn the lingo and above all...ask questions to learn what they might not know

We are a community. Too bad not all are willing to be a part of it, even though we keep the light on and the welcome sign out.

edit: NO, I am not Tom Bodett!

:offtopic:

I love your signature. What a perfect attitude to carry through life.

I'm not sure what to think of the avi though.

Sorry, carry on.

"You do realize I am the general public. This is not my hobby. I don't want to be part of the community."
I apologize for the long novel in advance!
Where to start, well for one, last I checked, EVERYONE, or at least MOST everyone in here is part of the "general public". While you may find it hard to believe, the numbers DON'T lie! Yes, Sally two cubicles down, just may very well have a Provari and a custom Kayfun Lite RBA with a "vertical quad coil" set up she wrapped tighter than the Preacher's wife! Or how about your mail man, who after 25+ years of smoking finally quit with just a simple Ego/clearo set up. Perhaps your doctor is a cloud chaser, an "in the closet" Rip Tripper's fan, who I watch by the way and AM going to give a SHOUT out to! (That dude is SICK as t!t$!) (Also we need a bearded emoticon!)

My point being, and I'm sure you're intelligent enough to figure it out, is we're EVERYWHERE! While yes we occasionaly come online to share our knowledge, experience, opinions and feelings, MUCH like YOU have done, yet you of course SEPERATE yourself from "us flashlight vaping fools"! "WE" the vaping community, ARE the GP! (That's general public btw!) ;) This is NOT some underground, blackmarket community, like Silk Road was, FAR FROM IT! Although if TPTB and bunch of greedy, powerful old men have their way, that just may very well become a REALITY!

"This is not my hobby. I don't want to be part of the community."

Uhm ok, ask yourself WHY you need to assert that, as well as what the heck you're DOING here then! Your DISDAIN for those who DARE take up this "flashlight perversion" is OBVIOUS, which is WHY you have gotten the reception and responses you have. I for one find it pretty comical, with a hint of pity mixed in. No one as far as I know FORCED you to sign up, log in, read or participate in the forums...It's ironic though that you state that you've been around for awhile, "reading your posts for a few years", so evidently you've been getting something out of it, yet you want to put down the very people who's knowledge, and experience you've been gleaning from over the YEARS! As part of the "general public" myself, I don't TYPICALLY stick around somewhere, of my OWN volition, where I don't want to be!

As far as the "lingo" goes, EVERY microcosm generally "invents" and utilizes it's own technical, shorthand or "slang" language like the linguist explained. I don't ALWAYS like it, but every generation seems to do the same, as we now have EPIC replacing "da bomb" and my personal NON-favorite, "YOLO"! While SOME people in this "community" refer to certain things as this or that, SURELY you've come to realize that not EVERYONE does so!

Much like a thread I participated in regarding e-liquid and referring to it as such verses the colloquial "juice".
The poster's concern was similar to your purported claim in that the "GP" are going to judge these behaviors and deem them unacceptable. Hogwash! I say let them, when they come after us, or I know me for sure, it's going to be like stepping on an ant pile! At least that's how it NEEDS to be! I'm so "darned" tired of people telling me how to act, or what to do just because it doesn't fit into THEIR close minded perception of how the world should run when it's OBVIOUS that I'm not hurting anyone, and in FACT, much less so than MANY of the behaviors of the "politically correct vape police"!
"Oh, yes ma'am, I TOTALLY understand your concerns about the wind POSSIBLY carrying my vape 3 ft toward your child's face as you take your ONE child and get into your commercial HUMMER and ride along in the HOV lane while you text your BFF, check your FB, drink your mocha frapa chocalatte and apply your make up"!! Really....REALLY?? The irony with these "hipsters" is, the next week they'll be vaping it UP, when one of the Kardashians or the dude who can't decide on a name, makes it into the "cool" thing to do! Evidently Stephen Dorff doesn't count though!

As far as mech's, flashlights and all that goes....I'll just start with a brief intro and some background info. I'm 37 years old, been military my whole life one form or another. I started smoking when I was 15, and from the start I had the mentality that if ONE is good, MORE is even better! I've smoked HEAVILY most of my smoking career! I've NEVER been able to quit except for when I was forced to and even then smoking was just about ALL I could focus on!

So recently I find myself not able to even bust a sprint out without feeling like a COPD patient, wheezing, winded, lightheaded, etc.! I was up to 2 1/2 PAD on average and going through a TON of money to feel and look like crap! Now was the time to "pay the piper" as I started noticing the crows feet around my eyes and laugh lines around my mouth start to take on even more definition! Of course losing a child didn't help the matter on both accounts either! I got to the point where I knew SOMETHING had to give, so I decided to do some research and give them another try after a previous encounter with a "cig a like" (that would be the smaller batteries that are generally used with eliquid filled cartridges and a "heating element"), you KNOW, the NON flashlight looking ones....

So ANYWAYS, that's when I found this place that had a TON of great information. Eventually I started interacting with some REALLY awesome folks! I've found PHENOMENAL "juices", the best places to buy supplies, and learned how to wrap my own coils, saving money in the process, as well as discovering WTA, a BIG factor in personally becoming 100% smoke FREE. Two months after I started vaping I was able to put my smokes down and after the first few SOMEWHAT difficult days, and rare occasion I HAVEN'T looked back! I don't regret a SINGLE purchase I've made or minute I've spent on this forum!

WHY do YOU have an issue with what people have or spend on this forum?? Is it "mines bigger than yours" envy?? Would you rather we spend all our money on smokes, get on welfare and compare Obama phones?? I think I've MORE than done my duty for THIS country to be afforded to have WHATEVER e-cig/mod/flashlight I choose! I like and have a bunch of Surefire and other high end tactical flashlights as well, do you have an issue with what I've spent on those as well? What about my AR-14, and all of my optics?? I'll leave it there because this is SUPPOSED to be about e-cigs, vaping and the vaping community as a whole but you get the idea...

At first though, being the "rational" and upstanding member of the "general public" I am, I had predetermined that I was ONLY going to stick with my "cigalikes" and tobacco variety flavors! HA! Boy did I NOT know what I was fixing to get into! Yes SIR, at LEAST a few HUNDRED dollars later I am now FULLY vested into this and am in the process of starting an online business for vaping supplies and other related services as well as planning a B&M, (an ACTUAL brick and mortar, onsite retail business), down the road if ALL goes well! Do I now consider myself an ENTHUSIAST? You darn right I do! I AM passionate about vaping and tell EVERYONE about it! Why wouldn't I, it's been a LIFESAVER, a TRUE miracle for me and my family members!

I've been where you SEEM to be, no passion, feeling like an outsider, and lashing out at others out of a resentment of not "fitting in", and liking who and where I was mentally. Of course I could be wrong, and you could just be a big ol hypocritin' troll, who's in to plenty of things that YOU deem acceptable for the "GP" to take part in as long as they stay within the confines and boundaries that someone ELSE comes up with and decides on! You could be A LOT of things, idk, I don't really care to be honest!

I wrote this long response mainly to show other "lurkers" and new members out there that your claims and criticism's are UNFOUNDED and ludicrous! You sound very young and immature, NOT the picture you try to portray of your "average joe schmoe", or a typical member of the "general public" who's trying to quit smoking. Do I personally agree with EVERYTHING I see or read on here or that goes on in the "vaping community" and "sub culture", of course NOT! However, I know how to utilize my mouse and keyboard, my remote, as well as my two feet, and AVOID those things I find questionable, inappropriate or NOT for ME!

If you would have led with some POSITIVITY and APPRECIATION for the things you learned here that DID help you to become smoke free I'm most CERTAIN that you would have gotten quite a different reception, and perhaps even gained an ear or two to hear your concerns and "criticisms", had you RESPECTFULLY introduced them and yourself!

That's it, that's all, as always, I hope I've helped someone, and I for one am MOST grateful for ALL the help I've gotten here! It blows my mind how much of the "general public" doesn't seem to know BASIC computer skills or how to participate and utilize a forum, or even READ the directions on HOW to DO so! That's why I gave up on believing "comon sense" exists a LOOOONG time ago!

So HEY, Jason Smith, get out there and blow some HUUUUGGEE clouds, YOLO! :vapor:
Vape ON, HooAH!
