Just finished a new box mod, and the radio shack momentary switch is DOA. :( This sucks, as it's for a friend's mom who is trying to quit smoking. I doubt RS will take back a DOA product with no package or receipt (been waiting on a few different parts for a while). At least it's only a couple of dollars for a new switch.

In the meantime, here is a picture of the (almost) finished product.

Yeah, that is a bummer. Feel for ya. All I can say is that most modders have been there at least once. I now check all my switches 1st, and use a heat sink when soldering.

Some switches handle the heat better than others. I know MV sells some popular switches that are just plastic/glue holding 2 contacts. If they get too hot, the contacts move and switch won't work. The RS ones are a bit more robust with the plastic shell, but can still suffer the same fate.

1) Check that it is working 1st.
2) Don't overheat ... Using a heat sink helps with this so you don't have a cold joint, and also don't melt the plastic
