Okay, I've had it. I'm soooo ......!! I've had TERRIBLE luck with atomizers. They clog on me super quick, and I think I'm going through more cash vaping than smoking. I was told that dry burning would solve my clogged atty issues, so I tried it. First time, it worked beautifully. It was like a new atty. No funky taste, easy draw, I was so happy. So then I took a few of my old clogged atty's, and 2 that I had burned by accident by sitting on my e-cig, and tried the same thing on them. I ended up with an almost fishy taste afterward, and they (all three) clogged almost immediately. And I mean clogged, absolutely ZERO air flow, until I sucked hard enough and then it felt like something popped out of the whole and I got a little bit, but got this nasty flavor. I don't know how to describe it really, not exactly a burnt taste, but I swear it's almost fishy. I think it is a burnt taste, but burnt what?? Is it possible to over-do it on the dry burn? I thought I was supposed to just burn it until it quit smoking and there was no more crap to burn, so that's what I did. I swear I didn't do anything different the first time and it worked fine that time....

So then I decided to try again. This time it was an LR atty, and I'm thinking this was a terrible idea. I've had to stop and let things cool during my dry burns with regular atty's because it wouldn't barely be glowing, but the button on my eGo would get so hot I had to put a paper towel over it to hold it. So anyway, this time it actually MELTED the button on my new eGo and totally destroyed it.

I don't know what to do!! I destroyed 3 atomizers in the first 2 days I had them by sitting on them by accident and they got that nasty burnt taste, I figured a dry burn would do the trick and it kind of did, but those were the one's that clogged right away after I did the dry burn. And all of them except the first one have this awful taste. And now my new eGo is effed. So ....... Anyone have any advice??? Please help me! I can't afford to keep spending $50-$100 on atomizers a month :(

Are you using a very dark, maple flavored juice? I've found my French Toast can really clog up my attys. Plus I've heard others mention that maple flavors are atty killers.

More importantly, are you priming your attys? Just as when they are new, after cleaning them, you really need to prime them with 6-8 drops and let them sit for a few minutes before adding 2 or 3 more drops and vaping. I've also found that even after you pime it, sometimes it takes a while for it to start rocking at peak performance. Sometimes I have to keep adding a couple of drops after just 2 or 3 hits until the burnt hits start to taper off. But eventually the kinks work out and they start rocking.

Lastly, you should really be careful when dry burning... especially with LR attys. I think you're just supposed to hold the button down for a second or two, and then repeat, and you shouldn't let them get to full glowing for any length of time. I learned the hard way, popping the first few LRs I had.

What king of atty are you using to start with...is it a tank or a carto or CE2? The tank attys are the most difficult to really clean well and if your not cleaning them well the dry burn won't work as well and they will clog quickly. I find the CE2's the most economic type because they clean completely with a soak in HOT water... dry and dry burn. Most of the old problems with CE2's have been fixed with better tubes.

Yikes, I'd be freaking out, too!

I use an eGo T type b Tank.

I blow them out about every day (take them off and blow through the battery connection end hard several times, wipe away any unburned juice), and clean them about once a week by rolling them around in a little Everclear followed by a hot water rinse. After they are dry, I usually prime with a couple of drops on the wick because my juice is pretty thick. Never had a need to dry burn them. My attys from CigNot ( aka Vicki from previous post) last an average of two months or so, rotating two or three at a time.

I've only have moderate success with dry burning my 510-T's. The key is that they need to be bone dry before you start. Blow them out really well. You may be surprised at what might still be lingering in them. My buddy was convinced that his atty was completely dead, even after cleaning it repeatedly, so I did some experimenting. I spent about 10 minutes blowing it out, burned it for a couple of minutes, soaked it in rubbing alcohol for about 15 minutes, then boiled it for another 15. Works great now. I've been rotating the same 3 atty's since Thanksgiving. Keep in mind that they're consumable and their performance will diminish over time, but so long as you clean them regularly they should be able to keep them going for well over a month. How long was your battery running when you were dry burning, and how long were your intervals between burns? My eGo cuts off after about 10 seconds...

Oh wow. Melted. lol (but laughing WITH you... if possible).

I'm going to catch heck for this. But here goes:

1) Dry burning is a LAST RESORT atty resurrection method used when the other methods are not enough. It will, in all cases, stress the coil. Although some atomizers can "take it" for a long while, it's not the preferred method of cleaning.

<Let the rants and raves begin>

2) Cleaning. I use a least-harm to most-harm method for cleaning atomizers. I use atomizers exclusively since I personally think cartos taste crappy and don't last as long. Anyway... different devices will have different voltages and as a result will kind of "self clean" a bit with higher voltages. However, that's more for HV vaping (like 5 volts). For your 3.4 volt stuff, you'll need to keep the atomizer clean. The best is to do steps in order, and stop when it works... don't do the higher numbered steps if you don't have to:

1) Blow it out two or three times a day. More necessary with lower voltage/lower wattage (higher ohm) stuff. This clears out any condensation/water/unvaped stuff that accumulates. The HV vaping tends to burn this up, but standard voltages and standard ohms may need to be cleaned out more often.
2) If that isn't enough.... try blowing it out then rinsing it well with hot tap water...blowing the water out and rinsing...blowing...rinsing.... real well. Water should run out of it cleanly/quickly. Blow it out real well and prime/vape.
3) Isopropyl alcohol and/or vodka soak/rinse. Read up on these elsewhere. Make sure you blow out the alcohol real well and let it evaporate off the wick. Or "warm burn" it off.. but don't stress the coil. Prime & vape. Could also rinse after as in #2.
4) You can try the baking soda/vinegar rinse to help get rid of nasty taste. Also lemon juice.
5) Finally, as a last resort, if all the above has failed... dry burn after rinsing out and drying well. Try not to over heat the coil... it should glow... but not for long. Pulse and try to keep it at the "just starting to glow" point. LET IT COOL. Then rinse it out to remove the "ash" of the residue.

As mentioned above, the juice plays a significant part in the clogging. Also, some people never dry-burn LR stuff since it pops even easier that way.

Hope this helps a bit.

Let the "I always dry burn everything and it rocks to the hills" discussion begin.
