we have a friend who wanted to try vaping and since we have an assortment of practically every ecig out there along with most accessories for them we put together 4 different kits for him to try with varying carto's, etc etc etc blah blah blah along with various nic juices and mg's and various pg/vg, vg, pg only etc etc etc blah blah blah

anyway, no matter what he tried he hacked his head off coughing! We figured it was the old 'remember when you first started smoking' cough thing but even after a month he still couldn't vape no matter what juice combo he tried or what ecig he tried.

I'm stumped as to why this happened. He's still smoking analogs. Thoughts?

He's trying to draw on it like he does with an analog. Suggest that he take shallow, slow pulls instead and fill up his mouth first, then inhale.

I know a few people that "power puff" on cigarettes (so much so that the end burns bright red and their cigarette almost deflates while doing so, lol).

It takes everyone, a bit of time to figure out the best technique for differen't delivery systems. Some carto's or ce2's need a good draw(suction) to pull in vapour - some don't. Also holding the fire button too long will cause the liquid to burn or at least give a burnt taste. I believe his main issue was inhaling directly into his lungs instead of filling up his mouth first.

All e-juice should come with instructions :)

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

I have encountered someone else who suffers the exact same thing. They are doing everything correctly but choke on the vapour no matter what. I put it down to some sort of recessive mouth-breather gene thing. Probably evolved from some other form of life that never breathed water at some point in his evolution. Possibly extra-terrestrial?

OK so it is me! I also hack a bit at first in the morning and take very small drags for the first couple pulls and that helps a lot. Likely a sensitive Vegas Nerve response of some kind that is tripped by the moisture in the suspension. It goes away after coughing up a lung or two.

I also think I have a bit of a problem with VG because if a juice has little or no VG I find it's much smoother.
I find the exact opposite. 70/30 pg/vg mixes are worse for me so I mix everything at 50/50 or greater. I find VG to be much smoother. Again, likely down to my potentially alien DNA.

FWIW,

When I ordered the bunch of sample juices when I started back about 10 days ago, I noticed the better half, would almost always cough when she wasn't inhaling the pure VG juice. The amount of nic was less of an issue than the make up of the juice.

If it was pure VG 18 nic no problems, a mix and 12 would still have her coughing, although she did do well with lively lime which I think was a 50/50 mix

I actually find that pure PG liquids can sometimes cause me to cough and I have to bump up the VG content to smooth it out, so there's that. Could be the nic strength too. No matter what there's a little bit of an adjustment period with vaping, since you're inhaling liquid vapor rather than smoke. I coughed a few times my first few vapes too but I got used to it pretty quickly as my lungs made the adjustment.

I give up on trying to figure out why he coughs up a lung. I guess maybe he's just unique or something. I mean it makes NO sense at all. He can hoove back a smoke nooooo problem. I sent him all suggestions from here and he says he did exactly what was suggested here (when he tried for that month) and still hacked up a lung. Makes no sense and I find it extremely frustrating :)

My wife has the saaaaame problem, and it is definitely from her pulling hard and fast (insert joke here), I tried vaping the way she is doing it and i coughed as well haha, there is definitely a technique to vaping as the others have said :)

Nope he says he was doing the old two step.....but...maybe he's lying.......the wiener.
