I started to really save money after

A) DIY e-juice. Not a problem buying a BIG bottle. I get about a 6 month supply of unflavored at once. It's the nic base that's expensive. Adding a few drops of flavoring and different "cuts" of PG and VG are all it takes to make a small bottle. So I can switch flavors at will. I keep it simple specifically to save $$$$

B) figuring out hardware costs too. Like carto and atomizer costs were higher than RBA stuff. Even with cartos and attys you still save though. batteries are expensive, so I use mods with $5.00 batteries ($10.00 per set). A set of 3 pairs (so $25.00 to $30.00) last me over a year. The box mods I build for $9.00 (simple) - $18.00 (vv) from madvapes. The charger is a one-time-cost of about $11.00. The idea is that the parts are "modular" in that batteries can be swapped around devices/spares. so they are not wasted and the same is true with the Vivi Nova or other 510 parts. Nothing is all-in-one. Only replace what breaks.

But that's me.

I don't know exactly when I broke even, it was probably about 6 months in.... it wasn't the primary goal, quitting cigarettes was

Had I been more careful in my spending habits I am sure it could have been sooner.....

I do remember doing a rough summary at about 4 months and being surprised at how much I had spent on ecigs....

I was in 'pretending to quit mode' with the cigarettes so was buying by the pack instead of by the carton so it was smaller chunks of money more often....

Almost everything I bought is still working and still hanging around here....

It is difficult to pin down the exact time when I started to save money by vaping as opposed to smoking.

I began vaping in November of 2011 with a first month investment of $150. This investment bought me three E-Power 14650 APVs, battery chargers, extra batteries, cartos and a small selection of juices. I wanted the two extra E-Power 14650s as back-up units although I haven't needed to use them as of this date.

I didn't quit a 35-year 1.5 pack a day habit overnight. I made a gradual transition to vaping gradually replacing each cigarette one by one with vaping. After five months of smoking and vaping together I had my last cigarette in April of 2012.

Before I quit smoking I spent $250 a month for cigarettes.

Expense summary:

Month 1: $150
Months 2-5: $35 per month for cartos and pre-mixed juice and other stuff.
Months 6 to present: $20 per month for DIY juice and other stuff.

I probably should have noted in my price break down that I haven't quit smoking all at once and that is included in my vaping budget, as well. I am way, way down on smoking now [only a few per day] and was going to save money but then I thought DIY will really save me money and I will always be able to have juice here instead of trying to order it online. I went whole hog and got 35 flavors, nic, pg, vg, blue glass bottles, a $30 tool box for organization and a $20 organizer.

DIY is saving me money and I feel a lot more secure knowing that I don't have to rely on the post office to get me my supplies on time. I figured my cost for my first few eigs [Blu, V2 at walmart and riteaid] and my cool stuff like a tray to hold all my goodies into my total costs and my cig smoking too.

I really shouldn't need/want anything for several months so the savings of $200 is kicking in and it feels great!!!!

One last thought how much dose Chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and lung cancer cost?

I don't know how much lung cancer costs but I do know how much brain cancer costs. I could buy a new Provari every day for the next 10 years and still not spend as much as I owe in medical bills.

An unexpected bonus for me with vaping is that I met the love of my life through vaping. Doesn't matter how much I spend vaping, the positive changes it has made in my life FAR outweigh any dollar amount I could ever spend.

It took about a year. They key points were settling on a go-to juice, and finding the hardware I felt comfortable with. This also meant settling down a bit and not trying every new thing that came out.

My go-to juice is Bloog's SPI. It's the only thing I use from Bloog anymore. My e-cig is a variable eGo battery with a cartomizer tank.

I go through cartos quickly because I don't care to clean them more than once. But now I spend at least half of what I did when smoking. Probably even less.

Don't think I don't thank God every day that I wake up and get to live another day. This was my second battle with brain cancer and I am fortunate to still be here. I am very much well aware of that. Trust and believe I treasure each and every day. While I don't wish my experience on any one, it makes me stop and enjoy the little things in life that so many people are too busy to stop and notice and I am very grateful for that. I have a new respect and a new prospective on life and love that I may not have had.....no... I know I would not have had. So as twisted as it might sound....I appreciate my experiences for what they are. Cancer does not define me, but how I live and fight with cancer DOES define me.

Been over 1 year now and I finally have everything I need. Upgraded from ego-c twist to a provari mini. Just started DIY ejuice last month and I am getting good results.
Only thing I will have to buy is cartomizers maybe once a month $7.25. And nicotine, vg and pg once every 6 months (under $20)
I have a lot of flavoring so I shouldn't need to buy more for a while. I just make about 5 juices at a time and rotate them daily to keep it new.

That $651 I saved in my banner is not true but I think by next January I will break even

I'm still very new to vapeing (going on my 11th day.. yahoo) but so far I've spent
$50.00 on a ego-w starter kit
$40.00 on 4 bottles of juice
5 vision clearomizers @ $6.00=$30.00
total-$120.00(no shipping charges cause of a BM store 5 min walk from my house.)
Here in NJ cigarettes are almost $9 bucks a pack , which I smoked at least 2 packs a day .Somedays more Thats $198.00
198-120=$78 dollars saved so far. But I know that 78 bucks is going to go toward a mod of some sort haven't decided which on yet
I don't really care if I save money . For me it was kinda about saving my life . Or what's left of it anyway. I should have waited a month in to answer this .I just felt like sharing my experience so far.

I really do wish that there was a way for us all to learn the lessons you did without having to go through the tragedy. I am sorry for your negative experiences and happy that you gained so much from them. I wish you many more wonderful years and thanks for being here for all of us.

My final order should be here in 2-3days. Then i have like 2months of juice and coils/cartos but total is about 220€ i've spent since starting (and quit smoking). How much i've saved in cigarettes you can see from my signature.
So if im not buying anything until march - i should be even :D

there should be a way to enter the money i spent into vapeing to that signature/counter :D

If saving money is your goal, it's completely doable once you settle on your gear and juices. Once all you're buying is replacement parts and juices, the savings will definitely be there. I spent a lot of money in the beginning trying different set ups, juices and juice vendors, but I'm happy with what I have now, so the spending has slowed considerably. If vaping becomes a hobby, well, you can spend quite a lot! Whatever the case, the money is well-spent.

I don't think I have saved money yet on vaping supplies, however, I hated smelling like cigs so I am saving on car fresheners, perfumes, body sprays, gums, and time. My teeth have already started to get whiter and I am less likely to lose time at work from getting sick. Most of the analog smokers at my job are currently battling bronchitis and I am feeling just fine. Quitting cigarettes was something I wanted to do so bad but just did not have the will power. The monetary cost of smoking wasn't a huge issue to me it was the cost of my health and quality of life. I have more energy now, have less nic fits and panic attacks, am more productive at work, don't obsess over smelling like an ashtray, and have noticed my skin, hair, nails, and teeth have all improved overall since kicking the butts.
