So how long will you use that thing before you quit?

Yeah...all the time...Been vaping since January and at first was more than happy to show off my rig...Try and pass the good word...Not so much anymore... I've heard more than my share of negative comments from the moral majority...better the holier than thous.... I could give a damn what they say or think... My lungs seem to like it fine...and I'm a nicotine addict.... So I'll puff as I please, where I please and for as long as I please..... I'm happy and that's what matters most....

Odd - no one has asked me this question (or one like it). People are just thrilled that I'm not smoking anymore. And when they hear of the healthy, beneficial nature of vaping (i.e. PG vapour's powerful bactericidal, germicidal, and in some cases even virucidal action)...coupled with the fact that the nicotine in e-juice is as harmless as the caffeine in coffe...if anything, they're even more interested in it. Even some non-smokers.

But yeah, DemonCleaner...just tell them you have quit. You don't smoke. That means you've quit smoking. Vaping is pleasurable, clean, good for you...and on a practical level, we all know that vaping keeps us away from smoking. You're a vaper now. You've quit smoking, and taken up vaping. Imagine if caffeine was the addictive element in deadly tobacco cigarettes...and drinking coffe was your new, safe means of consuming caffeine. If someone asked you "how long will you drink that stuff before you quit?" - tell them "forever, want some?"

In the meantime, just try not to let it get to you. It sounds to me as though a lot of people who pose this question ("so how long will you use that thing before you quit?") mean well & aren't trying to bug you. It's a legitimate question. Mainly because in the minds of most people, anything that helps you quit smoking is usually intended to be used for a time, and then ceased. The goal until now for those quitting smoking has always been to end up using nothing at all. I mean I never heard of anyone getting recreational pleasure from a stupid patch, lol, and planning to "enjoy" them indefinitely. But people getting recreational pleasure from vaping? Definitely! Vaping is the gamechanger. So yeah. Once people wrap their heads around that, it all becomes clearer.

It'll take patience & time on behalf of vapers like you & me to help people realize that vaping is not just a means to quit smoking - it's a healthy recreational alternative. Trust me - if you're patient, sooner or later you'll hear that question far less often.

I have heard that about 7 times now. Usually from non smokers, sometimes smokers that their significant other is pushing them to try and they are looking for excuses not to stop smoking. Whatever their reason for saying it, you will be able to spot who is who after time and answer their question before they even ask. ;-) Either way, I do not push anything on them. When they are ready they will come.

I usually get that from smokers and I explain that it is a smoking alternative for me , not a NRT and that I haven't smoked cigarettes since 03/03/2009. The non smokers are just glad I don't smoke.

Its the people trying to bum a smoke that get snarky.
"sorry I don't smoke"
"but I just saw you smoking"
"Sorry, you saw me using my personal vaporizer. Its not a cigarette"
"Huh?"
At this point I give them a business card that I keep in my wallet for when this happens and go on my way. LOL

All the best,
Wing.

I've been asked that question many times and I honestly answer that it's not even on my hit list right now. My inactivity and poor eating habits are the biggest health concerns for me right now. It used to be my smoking.

I don't believe vaping is "good for me", in an absolute sense, though. I am fairly confident that my lungs are intended for breathing clean air and NOT for chronically inhaling PG, VG, flavourings and nicotine BUT I am certain that if I was not constantly vaping I would most certainly be smoking heavily despite my deteriorating health.

Now, I no longer wheeze and hack and stink! My kids don't smell dirty ashtray on me and associate that smell with love. I don't annoy the people around me and I'm not relegated to the cold or stinking smoking sections anymore. I'm not excusing myself at strange times from important things because I have to get a monkey off my back (I can do it right there, LOL)!

Bottom line is I enjoy vaping FAR more than I ever did smoking!

I had considered myself a lifer, with respect to smoking (like my father before me). No longer.

I am a Very Happy Vaper! I won't apologize for that. I am proud of it!

Will I ever quit vaping? Maybe once I am healthy in most other aspects of my life. Even then, I hope I always have a functioning device for special times or tough times. Maybe in the glove box.

Vape Happy!

Nicely stated Jack! I could have written that myself. The only thing I would have added to the list is "I no longer snore". Vape on and I could care less what anyone other than my family thinks.

Well said, Jack! =D I quit smoking 17 years ago and waited impatiently for a way to get nicotine without inhaling tar daily. I'm proud that I quit, and I am *not* going to let anyone make me feel badly because I have a slight addiction to nicotine. I don't drink, I don't smoke, I just vape. And as you say, my weight and general health are more important to me, as well as my mental health, which the nicotine has improved 1000% (to the point where my psychiatrist approves completely, and has been tentatively suggesting PVs to some of his other patients who have similar problems to mine. My husband wouldn't have me quit vaping no matter what, considering what it's done for my energy and mood. =)

This is way more of a hobby to me right now than anything, and hey, everyone needs a hobby! =D I have a file of links to articles about nicotine and mental health as well, and I offer to pass it on to anyone interested, or even to those who just want to be jerks, because really, I don't want to sound too evangelical here, but the addition of a teeny amount of nicotine to my daily life has made me much more like I "used to be" before my bipolar disorder got really out of hand. And that makes me so. happy. Screw the haters. =)

Haha, since I started vaping, I got my husband a small e-cig too, and boy, his snoring has pretty much dried up. Might not seem important to other people but man oh man, I appreciate that. =D

I have to say that I would honestly look at that person and say, why on earth would I give it up? I still think about smoking, and when I do I grab my PV and puff and enjoy a fabulous flavour, with a healthy dose of I'm-not-going-be-cranky-nicotine, why would I give that up? If I did, I might last a few days, but the first tough day I'd be at the store buying cancer sticks. I know that about myself, I lasted a year of non smoking but the instant I had a really bad day, I lit up.

I've never been asked that question.

Just out of curiosity I wonder how many people who get this question call their device an e-cigarette.

HA HA! I've been teaching my son that it's called a personal vapourizer...he calls it a person vapererz or the blowing thingy. I didn't want to call it anything related to a cigarette and that was close enough for me.

The co-workers got used to me carrying my eGo, the most frequently asked question is "You still using that thing?". I tried to convert many of them to vaping without success. So now I just go vaping somewhere away from them (can't stand too much smoke and their looks). Sometimes I miss those smoke breaks... Oh well.
