Yea, it always is when your rebuilding or tinering....maybe
if you have some ko gen do, something you could try.....cutting a small square and sliding it in between the coils so as they don't accidently touch. I dunno. I tried to rebuild a dual coil head like that once. it ...... me off so afer about 45 minutes I just rebuilt it with a single coil and it worked sufficiently so that's how I've rebuilt them ever since. lol Much luck to you on this quest! Cheers!
I took the cotton out and dry burnt it a bit, it turns out the bottom coil is heatin up much faster than the top one. But they both glow inside out, but just not at the same time.

Might be a dumb question but are you sure you aren't tasting the cotton? It usually takes a bit for the cotton taste to dissipate in my experience.
Hot legs give a distinct metallic taste to me, not quite the dry hit taste. And if the cotton wasn't even singed, i don't think it was dry. Plus it looks good on the pic, i'd use less though.
I've also rebuilt kangers coils and found them better as a single coil :) personal preference

Oh and another thing you might be tasting, when winding the coils some skin from your fingers tend to be left on them. If you didn't dry burn them, you will taste that until it burns out.
It could be me tasting cotton, it's not a very strong taste like a burning or metallic taste but its still enough to make it slightly unpleasant. I did dry burn my coils just to get anything off them too :)

If I cant get this dual coil to work nicely, what's a decent single coil I can build for it? I have 32 and 30 AWG kanthal

Are you sure they're the same number of wraps? That does cause some issues when using a dual coil setup (different ramp up times, among other things). I ask because I did that once and vaped one coil dry and one coil was still nice and wet.

forgot to ask that. I've done that myself. One wrap can make all the difference in the world.

I'm pretty bad with count wraps, I end up completely forgetting to count them and just guesstimating how many wraps it is.. I'll scrap this coil and redo it later and make sure they both heat up exactly at the same time. If this fails I'm just going to scrap dual coils for now and stick with single coils. Thanks for the help everyon!

Don't give up! You can do it! But seriously, those dual coils are a pain in the .... to get right on Prebuilt heads. Single coils work great for just about every head you can buy. Getting the wraps right is pretty critical. You'll get bad taste from the uneven heating and could cause other issues. Best of luck to you.

lol. its funny how we get ahead of ourselves in thought sometimes trying to figure out how to solve problems. That should have been one of my first questions. Kudos to you @yuseffuhler.

Its like how Nasa spent millions of dollars inventing a pen that could write in zero gravity.

Well, most of the time when I mess up its something incredibly basic. I was trying to figure out what was wrong with my mod the other day and worked down a little list in my head... forgot to insert the battery lol. I'm glad it's worked out for you.

I just built another dual coil to test it out.. My coils aren't heating evenly still.. the bottom one fires up nicely and yet the top one just barely glows at all, it does eventually glow, but that's normally way after the bottom one is finished glowing. any idea why this is?

Because the coils aren't exactly the same. Even on my dripper, I have to tweak dual coils for a while to get them exactly the same. Have you tried strumming the coils with a flathead screwdriver? At this point you're delving into the PFM section of vaping.
