Yea but even just cruising along at a medium voltage with my Joye atties I will be asking the reg to run at twice what it was designed for. They only time I would be within it's rated output would be if I chose to vape at 2.2V.

i dont follow..I use joye attys as well..I havent cranked it to 7v on one yet but at 5v it performs well..Are you talking about amperage or wattage?

The problem is cutting a square hole accurately :)

I've done a few of those square holes.

The "secret" is establishing the corners. Once you have all four at 90 degrees, it's simply a matter of maintaining the angles and enlarging the opening.

Let's use Ohm's Law and figure for Current (amps).

Online Conversion - Ohm's Law Calculator

We will use 5V and 2.2Ω for a Joye atty.

Ohm's tells us we need 2.3A.

I'm assuming you are using this one. Correct?

Adjustable step down switching voltage regulator

Performance: Adjustable from 1.25 to 13V output using screw
1A output at 1.25 to 10V

Operating Ratings indicate conditions for which the device is
intended to be functional, but do not guarantee specific performance limits

From the datasheet:
Absolute Maximum ratings

Operation beyond these parameters may permanently damage the device

Output Current 1.5A

I guess it should work due to the intermittent way we use them, but there are more appropriate and less expensive choices.

A 3A output should be considered the minimum for our uses. In the above example that would mean running at a comfortable 80% of the rating.

I finally cut my first box to house the D.M. yesterday. I first made a paper template and then used my dremel with a cutting wheel (slow speed so not to melt the plastic) and finished up with a razor cutter. I takes a steady hand.
Nice work Para.

you are correct. In the intermittent way we use them, theres not a significant voltage drop. However it is still dropping under load..Yes , i could step it up to the 25 watt regulator but the idea is the keep it as small as possible. Im looking for a different box to house that regulator. The interesting thing is, not 1 single carto ive used drops.Only attys..I dont see many vapors that tend to hold the switch down for a vape for 15-20 seconds. At that time range it will drop 1 volt on this particular regulator. Thanks for the input

nice job! Which cutting wheel did you use?

I rough it out with a tile cutter bit and then use my needle files to strike the corners and form the opening to the correct size. Tile cutter bits go through plastic like c-rap through a goose so be very careful to not let it get away from you; but on the positive side it makes short work of modding an opening....VERY short work. I've found high speed and light pressure provides the best control
