It had been 3 or 4 months and not even a puff of a smoke. Id been out drinking, gambling and golfing many times and not a single drag. Last weekend was standing outside the bar vaping away and my friend asked if I wanted a stick for old time sake. Before I knew it I was puffing on one, then another and by the end of the night I had three. My girlfriend hates smoking and is super happy about my switch to vape. Luckily she is the best ever and didnt shame me about what I did and we went to bed *see passed out* with no issues. We all awoke in the morning and the same friend went out to have one and invited me and it was "ok". I didnt want one, I had no desire for one and the thought actually made me sick. Before when I quit cold turkey a night like that would have turned right back into a pack a day addiction. Even though I messed up I wasnt all that upset with myself and feel like I made alot of progress by just saying no the next day. Now its over a week later and havent had a cig or the urge since. Chalking this up to a fail win!

I haven't got that far yet, still having the odd one. But I've worked with people with addictions before (the ones that cause you a lot more havoc than smoking), and one thing that's pretty much consistently agreed on by everyone in the sector, is that being determined is good, but beating yourself up every time you slip up is entirely counterproductive.

These chemicals can have an incredibly powerful hold over us. I'm just pleased I can go a few days without having a cigarette or even really wanting one - that is incredible progress in itself for me.

AMEN! thats the hardest thing to get over. Ive battled weight my whole life too and use to go SOO HARDCORE then id eat a french fry and hate myself more than anything ever and give up because it was ruined forever!! Now im down over 60lbs and if I eat a half of a pizza one weekend you know what I do the next day? I eat exactly what I ate my last good day and dont implode with self loathing. Id love to know what its like not to have an addictive personality but learning to control yourself and how to react when you go against your goals is so important

Statistically, even from a health point of view, there are things in my life I should probably be worrying about more than having a cigarette every day or two.

I think the danger with smoking a few cigarettes every so often is that it is a step back towards full on dependence. But if you have a workable system that stops you backsliding further - whether that is a 12 step program, snus, an e-cigarette, whatever - I don't really see it as a problem in itself.

Which isn't to say I wouldn't like to be rid of them completely, just on principle. Getting closer, slowly...

What I personally like about vaping is I dont fear the stinkies. I know if I do something stupid one drunken night, I have vaping to go back to the next day.

It sounds like you are in the same boat as me, only you tested the principal more than I have. I have only had 2 separate drags off of two separate smokes in over 2 months. Mostly out of curiosity. Both times, they were the most foul disgusting thing to me.

the important thing I tell a friend who 'cheats' every now and then, "dont count the smokes you do smoke, count the ones you dont". ;)
