So I just rebuilt my first protank head....but...

Firstly I would like to say thank you to all the advice and help everybody on here gives out :)

As the title states, i rebuilt it but it's for my aerotank v2.
It's a single coil 1.5ohms which is a little different to the duel 1.8ohm (I think) stock coil that came with it.

My question is, the airflow seems a lot tighter, even wide open but why? I'm firing it a lower resistance and with only 1 coil.
It's not burning but I'm not sure if it's quite brought out the flavour which everyone says it will and I can't quite tell if the vapour production is less.

Am I doing something wrong here?

The trick to rebuilding Kanger coils is to get just the right amount of wicking material in them for the juice that you're using. Too much and the draw is too tight. Too little and it floods.

I've rebuilt hundreds using the same size coil and the same amount of cotton (I use cooking twine). Even so, some will be a little tighter draw than others. Maybe slight differences in that length of twine?

remember the wick goes right across the air flow, from the ring flow control ring to the stem up to the mouth piece. Remember that cotton expands when it is saturated with juice, if it expands too much it will block the air flow that goes around the wick, thus blocking your air flow partially.

2 things to consider.

Cotton before soaked, should be threaded through the wick, with barely any tightness. You should be able to pull it back and forth through the coil with very little resistance to the effort of a pull.

The other thing to consider is the inner diameter of your coil, if you made it too big, and still put the "correct" amount of cotton for that size coil, it could still be blocking way more of the airway than the stock coils do. Consider making a narrower coil, and this might mean you have to use less wraps or a smaller gauge to achieve the same resistance.

I rewick protank coils all the time. Coils themselves can work for a long time. I rewick new protank coils (original ones) - easy work, improvement is dramatic.

EDIT: I do not make coils for protank - Fasttech has premaid coils, 50 for $3. They are much better than homemade ones: their legs are made from low resistance wire, so no heating in places that do not need any heating (insulators, etc.)

If you have airflow control I would recommend trying a Vertical coil. I do them in my Emow Mega and wow the flavour and vaper prodution is amazing

Here is a thread I did on how to do them.

Thank you everybody for the advice!

And thank you for that tutorial! I used a protank 2 coil to rebuild this, but I'm going to swap back to the stock duel coil then take it apart and rebuild based on the tutorial!
Bookmarked!

now, technically im a noob here, but if you wrapped 8times on a 1/16'' and got 2ohms, wouldnt you be able to put more wraps on a smaller coil since it takes less wire to complete a wrap. under the theory that more wire equals more resistance?
my process of wrapping coils is not consistant enough for me to rule out other causes of unexpected ohms readings

Sometimes when you put the pin back in the bottom thru the little round silicone insulator it becomes kinda smashed, or cup shaped. Take a sharp razor blade and trim the edge of it so it looks more "flat" if that makes sense... It happened to me a lot and I would bet thats whats blocking your airflow...

yeah sorry, should written an "and" and not a "or", this is what i get for multi-tasking, but you are correct in your understanding.
