I want to purchase a Joye eGO stainless steel e-cig starter kit. I also want to purchase a passthrough for when I am on the computer, a carrying case, and throat hit (which increases the throat sensation). I know what flavor I want (vanilla). I just want to know. What parts need to be replaced. How many extra's do you recommend having onhand? How many times can the cartridges in the starter kit be refilled? How many atomizers should I have on hand at a time? And... HOW do I refill cartidges and add that throat hit stuff?

Thanks,

Huh, how much is sooo subjective. I have 7 batteries at 2400 mAh, 2 at 300 mAh, and 6 as 180 mAh and have at least 5 attys on, or near me at any one time. I'm sure this is overkill for most, but what I'm comfortable with.

Carts last a long time. They just need the fill replaced. Attys are the part that needs replaced often. (At least compared to all the other components.)

Confused by "throat hit" stuff. The easy way to get TH is with nicotine level. I didn't really make the switch to vaping until I was using 36mg juice and higher for certain times of the day. At that level, TH is pretty much a given.

However, nic level is arrived at by what works for you. Not by the TH.

To simplify, get an atty or 5 with your starter kit. Get small bottles of juice with different strengths and flavors to find a juice that works for you. I find juice a bigger key than hardware.

All of the parts will need to be replaced eventually, but atomizers will probably be the one thing you replace more than any other. What Hoosier said is correct; get a few more atomizers to go with your kit. I would forget about the throat hit stuff until you are more comfortable with your kit and have settled into a nic level and found some flavors. Don't limit yourself to just vanilla. Personally, I find vanilla by itself to be bland and it's one of those flavors that could need some time to develop. If you limit yourself to just one flavor you'll miss out on the biggest thing vaping has to offer and that's variety!

I have only burned out one atty so far, and that was due to dry burning, which I did a lot of in the beginning. I quit dry burning when I fried that atty, and now I just cycle through my various juices and blow the atty out every once in a while.

Flavors that are wickedly persistent and linger in an atty for a while, IMO:
Clove
Watermelon
Citrus
Black Tea
Cinnamon

Surprisingly, mint seems to leave pretty quick. Most of the tobacco vapes transition from the one to the other in a pretty friendly manner.

What everybody else said. i actually just started using the ego. (great deal from LF on a stainless recently) had the Riva before but not long. I had always used a KR808. In the 3 weeks i have been using this kind of unit, I have burned out 1 atty, just quit in the middle of dripping. Still have the 2 Riva's and 1 ego along with all 10 refillable cartridges. I did however discover cartimizors and WOW there the bomb. They use a ton of juice but I've spent well over $100 and I think theres alot more to try out. If nothing else get a few maxi ego carts from My Freedom Smokes. Super cheap at 40% off. Use code "smoke" They end up costing $177 each, great deal considering some places get $4.00

Have fun:)

How many parts to keep on hand is whatever makes you comfortable. You do need enough so you don't run out, afterall what would you do if your last atty failed and it's a 3 day wait for replacements? Most of us would go buy smokes. But everyone has a different comfort level. The minimum I'd keep on hand is at least one spare batt, 2 atty's, a box of carto's, a bag of filler material (if I used cart's, which I don't anymore), an extra drip tip, an extra charger, and enough juice to last for a month. But, that's a minimum for me. With what I've got on hand I could easily vape away for oh, 1 1/2 years. Yeah, I'm comfortable with that.

In my experience, cartridges can be used for about a day when new. Then the filler material starts to get compacted a bit and it doesn't make contact with the bridge in the atomizer. You can fluff it up a bit with a pin or needle and it will work for a while. Eventually you just replace it with new filler. You can keep using the same cartridges until they start fitting loose. To fill a cartridge, just remove it from the atomizer and turn it over. Drip juice into the filler material until it looks damp. If juice puddles in it, it's over filled. When that happens, either suck a bit back out with the bottle, or dob it out with a tissue. An easier route, in my opinion, is to use a drip tip. You never have to mess with it. Drip 3 drops, puff away, no fuss, no muss. You get around 12 good hits, then drip again.

If you're wanting more throat hit, try LR atty's. Also try different brands of juice. If you only like vanilla, there's lots of different juice vendors to try. Personally, I like vanilla but not by itself too much. I mix it with a mild tobacco flavor at a 1:3 ratio and it's a lot tastier in my opinion. If you're wanting more TH, some people add everclear to their juice to acheive that effect. Personally, I'd just try the kit as it comes. You can always tinker with things later if it doesn't meet your expectations.

I just got my eGo's last Monday. 2 complete, stainless, 1000mAh batteries from Cignot. Great price, great service. I also got several flavor samples. So far, I have been loving the RY4 juice from same place. 26mg nic/all VG. Very tasty as is and still delivers enough TH to do the trick for me. (The PG must be even better for flavor and TH.) Definitely try lots of juice samples. Just be sure to clear out the atty's when changing juice or have a dedicated atty for each flavor. Spare atty's are going out on my next order, just as soon as I find the best prices. The above mentioned supplier has a 3 pack at a good price. May be tough to beat for OEM atty's.

I have three sets of Joye 510's (just purchased three kits due to price, better deal than getting everything separate)(two kits would probably do me fine but I like extras), two personal charging cases (probably only need one), several extra carts and fill. Also have a passthrough for my computer. A must if you sit at a computer alot (my opinion). Just started my collection of e-juice to find what I like best which is more of the vanilla, chocolate, mocha, ry4 flavors as of now. I'm not much on the berry flavors myself. May change later. I do notice that I am starting to get to where I don't really like the tabacco flavor much any more. This comes from using flavors for about a week for me. Anyway, this is what I have and works great for me starting out.

BTW - make sure you have an AC to USB adapter that can support the passthrough. Don't hook a PT to your computer's USB. Most PTs need 5v 1000mA. I don't have an Ego so I don't know the volts/amps of their battery chargers (I just know they are different power from the ones for Joye 510 and other smaller PV batteries - the smaller ones are often 5v 500mA and I know their chargers are not enough for a PT).

I'd chuck the prefilled carts and just get a few blank ones.

Get small bottles of different flavors and different strengths of juice to fill the carts. (The percentage of people who like prefilled 510 carts is pretty darn low.) Finding the right juice is a huge key. And, from experience, the juice that will work is very seldom anything close to what you thought it would be.

Hardware choices look good to me.

So just get a pack of 5 unfilled cartridges? I'll get more scents as I get paid in 2 weeks. or whatever lol. Why should I get different strengths? What is this crap about letting flavors sit for 5 weeks before using them? That's weird. It really does all seem like a big PITA. Batteries that, atomizers that... set your flavors and then getting different strengths... ugh.
