Hello all,

I'll start with an intro I guess; My name is Derik, I'm 19, and I'm getting married in about two months. I'm currently enrolled at Saint Francis University, and I'm double majoring in Psychology and Philosophy. Right now I'm working a graveyard shift, and with the wedding planning, and the full time school coming up mid August, I'm a bit stressed. My fiancée and I have been smoking cigs for about a year now, and she wants to quit for personal and health related reasons. She wants me to quit for my health (I already have bad lungs from some mold issues a few years back) and for the practical reason of her not being able to avoid cigs if I'm smoking them. The problem is, with all this stuff going on it just seems impossible. I only got 2 days without buying a pack of Camels. Because of that, I'm considering the e-cig.

I've read a couple threads here, but I have some questions.

1) If I smoke, on average, about 6-7 Camel wides a day, how can I tell what would be an appropriate replacement? I don't want to increase my nicotine addiction, but I was a bit confused by the thread about the subject. Probably because of my unfamiliarity with the lingo or measurements.

2) Is there a buzz with these things? I love the nic hit first thing in the morning, and I don't want to lose that occasional light headed feeling after a long day.

3) How long do atomizers last? Are they expensive to replace?

4) I'm on a budget, I just moved into my first apartment, and I just don't have disposable income (another reason the cigs have to go). Is there any starter kits out there that won't break the bank? I'm afraid of the initial investment since I'm not sure if it would work for me.

5) I guess one more question, are there any clove flavored drops out there? I was a big fan of Djarum. I even ordered them from Indonesia after the ban...

Anyway, this seems like an awesome place to learn a thing or two, and it seems promising.

Much thanks,
-Derik

Hi Derik, well congratulations to you on all fronts. Lots going on eh? I'll answer your questions the best I can.
1. I wouldn't consider you a "heavy" smoker so I'd say try starting out with maybe 18mg juice and a decent ecig like the Joye 510, the DSE 901 or the kr808D-1. These are just model numbers. Reputable suppliers will list them by these numbers. I suggest avoiding web venders who give them other names and don't tell you what model they are.
2. A buzz? Well, I guess if you get a buzz from nicotine then yeah, there will probably get a buzz off this stuff. I started smoking when I was 12 and I'm 52 now so the days are long gone when I noticed a buzz from nic.
3. How long do atomizers last? That's the best question yet. I wish more newbies would ask that instead of just getting upset when an atty starts to die out. There's a rationalization to that. I get an average of 4 to 6 weeks good usage out of an atty. Sometimes less but often more. For the models I listed above an atty will run you $7.00 or $8.00. I stock up on them when I find them on sale for $5.00 sometimes. They don't last forever but they last 30 times longer than a pack of cigarettes for the same amount of money. And they won't kill you.
4. I hear you man. That's why you were really smart to come here first. Lots of people get took by the companies that advertise on radio and TV. Companies that brand name their ecigs and sell kits for $70.00 to $100.00 are a total ripoff. Look here Welcome to MadVapes LLC or here Cignot your Midwest Electronic Cigarette store. and you'll find really good quality starter kits for $30.00 to $45.00. The ones you see for $70.00 or $80.00 on those sites are specialized ones with bigger batteries that hold a charge for a really long time. They're not a bad idea. constantly charging batteries can be a pain.
5. Oh yeah clove is pretty popular and easy to find. Tons of different flavors are available. Stuff you wouldn't even think of.
Well, good luck to you. With everything.

Thank you for the replies gentlemen!

There certainly is a lot going on. Thanks for the web sites and model tips, I started looking at them already. Something I was curious about was the manual v. automatic thing. Are there automatic models out there without the battery risk? If not, does anyone mind the manual? I guess I'm looking for pros and cons.

When I do smoke though I never leave the cig in my mouth without it in my fingers. For some reason I can't inhale when I do that. So maybe I wouldn't care about the manual. Figured it's not a bad idea to ask though.

As far as the buzz question goes, that may be a deal breaker. No buzz is one of the biggest issues with me and quitting. Hopefully someone that has been smoking for less time can chime in with their thoughts, I can't find a good answer via google yet.

Again, thanks!

Most people prefer the manual batteries. Autos are more like actual smoking but tend to be more finicky. The little diaphragm switches inside can get sticky sometimes. Manuals are more trouble free. I'm not sure what risk you're referring to. These little ecig batteries don't really vent or anything. I've never heard of a problem there.
As for that buzz thing, You're still getting nicotine sooo...
You could get a disposable ecig first for $10.00 or so and find out for yourself before you buy a kit.

I read in a couple places that with the automatic you can leak the solution onto the battery and somehow short out the unit, that's the risk I mentioned.

Thanks for the edit answer. Concerning the buzz question: Jesus...I just found the thread "What do e cigs feel like?" (I tried posting the link but I can't post URLs until I have 15 posts apparently.)

I'm not foolish enough to think I'm not addicted. I'm an addict. I haven't been smoking long, and thankfully I don't smoke much. But that's only because I'm a poor college student. If I have the means I know I'll smoke more regular cigs. I just want to quit now before I'm at 2 packs a day. The "buzz" I get is only that first cig of the day, I'm not looking for an every time high or anything. That would mean buying higher concentrations, more often, and increasing my addiction. That's not what I want. I just want there to be SOME of the satisfaction involved in e-smoking that there is in regular smoking.

I think you will find that there is a lot of the familiar satisfaction with ecigs as there are with cigs. You dont smoke much so that is good.

Yes you can catch a buzz off ecigs, just like regular ones if you get a higher nic level for first thing in the morning then reduce it with a lower one during the day.

You are probably getting that little buzz anyway since you have deprived the body of nic for 8 hours when sleeping then hit it with nic, so a little buzz at first.

Good idea to ditch the cigs now while you dont smoke much before it escalates.

Cignot.com has a 510 kit for 35.00 , it is a good starter kit for most people.
Be sure to order extra ejuice from there or somewhere else, and extra atomizers too.
They do tend to die at the most inconvienant times without warning. they may last a day or a month , frankly it is dependent on a lot of things how long they can last.
Most people get 2 weeks or more out of one.

Look up the Pay it forward forum in the social groups on here for trading samples of juice with others to try new things without it breaking the bank. It is a forum to help other vapors . You will have to click to join the social group before you can post there.

Good luck with your new adventure of ecigs:)

For clove... go to TastyVapor for sure! BEST out there. Tasty Vapor 1oz nicotine liquid and a 4oz bottle of "Doubler" to mix to what ever level you need. Comes in handy when you need to switch over to higher nicotine for the times when you want a cigarette. A bit more nicotine for one vaping session can help kill off the craving and then you can go back to vaping a lower liquid until the next time (just fill the cartridge with a bit of the higher level liquid).

Lots of people also love his Atomic Cinnacide (like a red hot candy that'll blow your head off, ha). You can't beat the prices or flavors at TV either.

If you like Clove, you might also like Halo's Smooth 8 (Ginger like tobacco). This stuff effectively killed off the slight remaining nagging craving for a cigarette for me. Highly recommended.

Cheers to you for quitting NOW. Trust me, it gets even harder to let go as you get older! You may find that you will still smoke one or two a day for a while. Do what ever you need to (many do) but replace as many as you can each day. It all depends if you really want to quit (but then, you know that!).

It takes a while to find the nic level and method that will work for you, so hang in there.

I'm pretty new too, but I've been vaping for about a month now after smoking for 6 years. You do get a buzz in the morning if your nicotine level is high enough. Just be sure to back off for the rest of the day or you might get a little nauseated. I got some clove juice from strictlyejuice and it is great! I like the flavor and the fact that it doesn't quite taste like tobacco, which helps with the cravings--instead of wishing it were a "real cigarette" you are happy with the switch. Hope this is helpful!

Alright, I think I'm going to take a chunk out of my next paycheck and try this out. Thank you for the help, I know I have tons of questions but I like to know everything about something before I jump in. Hopefully you'll bear with me with this next onslaught heh.

How long do cartridges last? I assume they're refillable? How many should I start out with?

How much fluid should I have on hand in the beginning?

Do I need to get mixing supplies or can I make due without?

If I had a solution of 24mg, and loaded it into the cartridge, how much nicotine is that per "smoke"? Is it 24mg in the entire cartridge, until it is emptied? I'm not much of a chemist

How many atomizers should I get to start with? And is there a brand or something with the 4 week average life mentioned as opposed to the 2 week average?

Are cartomizers generally liked more?

I'm looking at buying the Boge 510 kit listed on madvapes, it includes:

2 Matte Black 180mah Manual Batteries with Blue LED
2 510 Boge Expert Atomizers
5 Prefilled Round 510 cartridges (USA Mix 24 mg)
1 USB Charger
1 AC Adapter
1 User Manual

Am I missing anything vital with this?

Many thanks folks, I appreciate the help,
-Derik

-Cartridges for me last a while since I refill them with e-liquid and when the polyfill gets tamped down I replace it with new polyfill (which you can find at MyVaperStore under cartridges). I would start out with 5.

-I would say for fluid get 10ml per flavor to start out with (just so your not stuck with a huge amount if its not for you).

-I never use mixing supplies because all of my e-liquids are already pre-mixed.

-I have no idea but that is a pretty high amount of nicotine my friend. For someone who smokes 6-8 analogues (cigarettes) I would start out with 16-18mg.

-For every two complete e-cigarettes (one atomizer plus one battery make a complete e-cigarette ) I would get one extra atomizer for backup purposes (that's just my opinion)

-I wouldn't be the one to ask since I have never used one, I will let a more senior member answer that one.

-Since you are a new user I think what you have on mind is spot on (if it turns out you like it get the extra atomizer and some e-liquid (I swear by Vaporbomb)

Good luck with quitting the analogues! With me the e-cigarettes mad a world of difference (going on my second official day without a cigarette!)
Cheers mate! :toast:

Hello all,

2) Is there a buzz with these things? I love the nic hit first thing in the morning, and I don't want to lose that occasional light headed feeling after a long day.

I do but it generally takes a high mg juice or just the right setup of atty/voltage for me. I keep a bottle of 36mg menthol just for that.

24 mg for first thing in the morning and 18 mg for the day. The carts that come with the kit will be fine, you can refill them.

Order lots of juice and extra attys. That is important!

Order different flavors in smaller bottles to start with until you find out what you like.
Those that you dont like, take to the PIF forum on here and trade them for others to try.

Cruise on over to Tastyvapor.com for juice too. Dont be afraid to get it because the bottles are large there, it is really easy to trade or sell it here if you find you dont like it. It will sell fast .

Good luck with your journey into vaping, it is a great ride:)

Smart man...we are here to help

... How long do cartridges last? I assume they're refillable? How many should I start out with?
Cartridges will last a long time....clean the filler occasionally and refill with fresh when needed. 5-6 will be a good start

... How much fluid should I have on hand in the beginning?
I would recommend a total of 30-50ml broken down into as many different flavors as you can get depending on where you order.

... Do I need to get mixing supplies or can I make due without?
Much further down the road, if ever

... If I had a solution of 24mg, and loaded it into the cartridge, how much nicotine is that per "smoke"? Is it 24mg in the entire cartridge, until it is emptied? I'm not much of a chemist
This one is important.....that is mg/ml or the amount in 1ml of juice.

... How many atomizers should I get to start with? And is there a brand or something with the 4 week average life mentioned as opposed to the 2 week average?
in the beginning....buy for price...and get 3

... Are cartomizers generally liked more?
They are for me! If you are on the go a lot....they definitely simplify things and reduce the amount of "stuff" you will need to carry with you.

I'm looking at buying the Boge 510 kit listed on madvapes, it includes:

JUICE!!!!!!!!! another atomizer, cartomizers if they have em (wont need 3rd atomizer if you get a few cartos)

Good Luck.........VAPE ON!
