And I got this off the wiki: E-Cigarettes: The New Frontier In War On Smoking : NPR

Basically saying the FDA is expecting evidence from the manufacturers to prove that it is an effective stop smoking tool, in order to market it and/or approve it. Here's the funny thing, they only found ONE chemical in it that they know to be "harmful". Diethyline Glycol? 4000 are in cigarettes. The FDA has even tested these babies out. Did they just not do an extensive enough research? I know those things take time but why not release updates to the public if indeed they are still researching as to exactly what is in them?

I just realized that they are banned in Canada, which totally bums me out cause my Mom lives there and I was excited about sharing the experience with her. I wouldn't want to get caught smuggling them in though, or anything like that :(

This is a huge thing because think about it: This is still up in the air in the U.S. It would be easy for them to put a ban on Ecigs. The articles I have read talk like that is right around the corner, despite them being a safer alternative. Why isn't the manufacturer gathering data on the consumer's response and cessation, and if they are why is it not out there?
I'm peeved.

There are lots of Canadian people on this forum who import their e-cigs and e-juice. I would suggest you check out the Canadian sub-forum to get vendor info.

I know that Vapor4Life ships to Canada and as far as I know, no shipments have been seized by Customs.

Well, this is more testimony that we've gotta get out in front of this issue. We are the best evidence for the beneficial uses of e-cigs. I always take the time to demonstrate and explain what my pv is, when people seem even a little bit curious.

I should probably put more consideration into a big-picture approach, huh? It's in our best interests if we all were more vocal.

Canadians correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it illegal to sell them in Canada but not illegal to use them?

That's exactly right. The current rules stem from this: Health Canada Advises Canadians Not to Use Electronic Cigarettes - Health Canada Advisory 2009-03-27

They're a bit vague. They definitely do not prohibit the use of e-cigs in Canada, that remains clearly legal. The rules are sufficient regarding importing (which by definition includes bringing into the country for personal use) e-cigs into Canada that Canadian Customs have decided to enforce this when they've noticed incoming mail items as clearly being e-cigs material. But their justification for doing so has so far been on the basis of there being nicotine content. They seem a bit unsure of their ground.

I think that the worst case if you bring e-cigs with you into Canada for personal use (i.e. not in a quantity or format which clearly indicates intent to sell) is that they'll be seized, with an option for you to reclaim them on exiting Canada if you're willing to go through some work to do so. More likely I think is that they'd only seize stuff which clearly includes nicotine.

In practice if you don't flaunt the e-cigs I think your odds are good of bringing them in. Even if questioned you might succeed by describing them as medicine inhalers. If questioned about what medicine and you truthfully answer nicotine you might be hooped but still you've been truthful and worst case should be that they get seized. There isn't a basis to charge you with a crime in current Canadian law as far as I know.

For maximum odds of success I suggest either carry something non-cigarette like (e.g. a Janty Stick), or something very cigarette like, and carry chargers separately (they could be for anything when carried separately), and package your liquids without any nicotine labelling (they could well be massage oils, who could tell?)

I've been through the border a couple times deliberately vaping while being asked the usual questions and had no issues in either direction.

They are NOT illegal to own or use, and according to the HC statement, only illegal to market without jumping through the traditional hoops put up regarding marketing "anything" in Canada.

So NO, they are NOT banned in Canada....

You must understand that the government is being disingenuous. It's not that they want those tests done. It's that they know the Pharm companies are the only ones who can afford it. Pharm won't touch it because it's too big a threat to their hugely profitable and completely ineffective NRT's. Make no mistake. This is about tax revenue and protecting the two industries that fund our government the most. Pharmacutecals and Tobacco. If the FDA were really that concerned about our health there would be no McDonalds and no Starbucks. There are literally thousands of products that treat a wide array of problems from obesity to insomnia that are sold right out of GNC with a little label that reads "Not intended to treat diagnose or cure any illness. These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA." Follow the money http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/campaigning-discussions/34234-link-michael-siegels-blog.html
