Here's an excerpt of an article of the death of 'The Deadliest Catch' Captain-

"He did cut back on energy drinks, quite a bit from what he'd usually do," says Josh, "but [doctors] have determined that smoking was the cause of this, and that was always his biggest habit. He had changed a lot of his habits but just could never kick the smoking. He started working with that electronic cigarette but, not used to it, he didn't know how to charge it. He just kept smoking."

Wish he could have started using a PV a lot sooner, RIP Captain Phil:(

i kept saying he was going to die before next season to my GF. He smoked constantly and had for 25 years(i believe almost 3 pks a day), and looked like death. Truly a shame and why my sig represents a better future fore me and many others.

btw, Chase IS THE MAN.
Another Phillies fan here. Born and raised in Philly

Not wanting to offend anyone...hope I don't, because I like the show too and Capt. Phil was my favorite. But I'll tell you what killed him....the mindset that many of those fishermen have. That primarily being...if you are not abusing your body and shortening your life, you are something less of a man. You see it on all those Discovery/History channel working-class hero shows. Destroy your bodies to prove to the other guys how much of a man you are. I'm in the construction biz and see it all the time. It's just plain silly...

I don't disagree, but wasn't Captain Sig Hansen trying to quit the cancer sticks last season too? This should be a wake up call to all of them. I remember the episodes when Captain Phil was having the health problems were about the same time my Dad had to get a triple bypass, also from smoking. Luckily he did better than Cap Phill and is fine and smoke free now. Seeing what happened to Phil makes me realize how lucky my Dad was.

I feel bad for Cap Phil's family to have to go through this.
