Ok I’ve read on this forum about exciting times ahead regarding technical developments with e cig design. So what are these developments that are going to overcome the problems we encounter , and are they coming soon?

i dont think the developments will be soon..the manufactorures seem more than happy to churn out the same old devices while there's a market..i think the way forward would be from a power point of view and a better atomiser design!
we need a device that works...trogs screwdriver is the way forward,to have a device that works well wont look like a ciggarette..im quiet happy with this i dont care what it looks like as long as it performs.
as for a better atomizer, well weve been discussing this for months.. who knows when the next generation will be ?

Trog: You might be able to pull this off. What if we threw away the whole battery/atomizer part of the e-cig and turned the design around. The cart is in front. Then, instead of a heating coil, we use a solid atomizer (nichrome lump?) and heat it with a short laser blast? You're a DealExtreme freak, too, so look at DealExtreme: $43.65 High-Power 200mW Red Laser Pen (Burns Match + Visible Beam Daytime).

As of August, we in the U.S. can't buy these. Can't ship them within our boundaries. Good old FDA stepped in (we've all heard of that regulatory agency, right?). Read the first "review" post for this item and anyone will understand why it's banned. The idiot buyer/poster blinded the neighbor's cat -- for fun.

Anyhow, you could buy one. Focus it with a new lens. Give it a manual push button trigger. Aim the beam inside the tube away from the user (and incorporate some kind of block for safety). It should instantly heat an atomizer.

If the atomizer is the problem with current devices, invent a new atomizer.

i have a nice 100 mw green one already bob.. it puts a nice green spot on the weather cockerel a mile away on our bloody great hundreds of feet tall local church spire.... he he he..

i am frightened to point it up in the air from my backyard in case they come and arrest me.. it can be seen from several miles away.. he he

i have a 100 ml version of the red one u mention coming.. he he he

but laser heated atomizers hadnt occurred to me i must say..

trog

ps.. but i am reasonably happy with current atomizers as long as they come cheap enough to throw after xxx use.. chucking one with each cart seems overkill to me..
