Since it seems like it might be useful in planning mods, I've been trying to determine what cylindrical rechargeable batteries are for sale. So far, I've found:

10440 (AAA size) - 3.7v
14250 (LS1425, 1/2 AA size) - 3.6v
14430 (4/5 AA size) - 3.7v
14500 (AA size) -3.7v
14650 - 3.7v
14670 - 3.6v, 3.7v
15270 (CR2) - 3.0v, 3.6v
16340/17340/17335 (CR123) - 3.0v, 3.6v
17500 - 3.7v
17670 - 3.7v
18350 - 3.6v, 3.7v
18500 - 3.7v
18650 - 3.7v
25500 - 3.6v, 3.7v

Got any more I missed? Notice any errors in my list?

18350, only comes in unprotected (although Cisco will be getting a small order of 3V protected ones, and I have a contact for 200 MOQ 3.7V). The commonly available version is 3.7V. Same rough length as the CR123's, but the slightly larger diameter has a disproportionate improvement to actual capacity, it's likely to become a substitute for CR123's especially in "convertible" mods that can take 1 18650 or 2 CR123's. Same cell used in the 601 ePipe.

Yup, maybe we should make up a 5volt battery co-op and get some 'samples' made :). Problem is we'd probably need a custom charger too.
No such animal in Li-Ion, its either 3v or 3.7v, with a few 3.6 and a few 3.2 in the mix. The chemical makeup is the limitation. If you see any li-ion in any other voltage, its either multiple cells or some sort of boost/resistance regulation. The difference between 3.6/3.7 and 3.0/3.2 is the anode core is made up of either coke or graphite.

Are there any flat (cell phone type) batteries available anywhere?

My phone has a small flat li-ion battery that is 3.7V and 960MaH if that helps. I am curious because they may be useful for some mods.

Thanks!

Yes phone, camera, gameboy etc flat batteries are about the easiest thing to source and relatively easy to find external chargers for etc. However the form factor requires something like a box mod etc. This last weekend I cnc machined a couple of prototype models based on a sony camera flat battery. It requires
a great deal more engineering skill to produce a mod with one of these as the battery holder / contact mechanism is much more complex then cylindrical batteries. This can be simplified by pilfering the housing from a phone but I am trying for something as small as possible not much more than a 10th of a inch larger than the battery, about the size of a zippo.

I am not sure any of these phone batteries are protected however which could cause a safety issue.

16340/17340/17335 (CR123) - 3.0v, 3.6v
Are these all available as 3.0v and 3.6v? I was under the impression that the CR123 family was 3.0v. In fact, I find some sites confusing because when I search for an RCR123A they often give me 16340 in the results. They're the same size, but the voltages aren't the same.

lithium cobalt oxide (LiCoO2, usually just marked Li-Ion) is nominal 3.7v, you can use voltage limiting diodes to regulate down to 3v, some do this, Soshine is one example

lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) is 3.2v nominal, and is sometimes used in conjunction with a diode to reach true 3v, Tenergy does this

all four options are available in the cr123 size (16340)

16mm diameter, 34mm length, cylindrical

Personally I'm still looking to discover a reliable source for good-quality 10440 (AAA) sized PROTECTED batteries. -- I've decided this is the form factor I'm targeting for implementation in my own modding efforts.

As I understand it.. Cisco obtained a number of them at some point. I also seem to recall one of the suppliers has listed them as available.

But I've not yet to been able, with just surface-searching, to find a definite source for these critters. -- Maybe one of ya'll can offer a lead..?

Or perhaps Cisco can offer additional insight as to how he has managed to do so. -- Heck, for all I know maybe you (Cisco) would consider being a source for us others here...??

[[ ok.. I admit.. i'm really just fisching here ]]

cheers,
fisch
