Finland Bans Tobacco Display In Europe's Toughest Tobacco Control Law

"There will be a total ban on the sale of snuff in Finland, as the ban on import and sale will be extended to also apply to private persons. Ordering snuff e.g. via the Internet will also be forbidden. A maximum of 30 packets, each containing 50 grams snuff, may however be imported for one's own use. It will be forbidden to import snuff as a gift."

The TC people won't be happy until they no longer have jobs. No wait, there's always soda.

So if I read this correctly then they can order up to 30 containers at 50g each for personal use. I guess the thing I don't understand is how can they import it if they can't order it online. A telephone order perhaps? I don't know about anyone else but 1500g of snuff is about a lifetime supply for me.

Hit, I think most of the tins of portions are around 24g so I'd guess that we're talking 30 tins of snus.

roth, so when they said snuff, they really mean snus? I thought it was talking about nasal snuff. You are right in that most snus comes in 24g cans. You probably already know but snuff comes mostly in either 10 or 25g tins but 50g bulk can be bought some places like toque.

    From the anti-snus web site-

Snus News & Other Tobacco Products: Finland - president approves new tobacco act, not as strong as people hoped..

"There will be a total ban on the sale of snuff (like Snus) in Finland, as the ban on import and sale will be extended to also apply to private persons. "

At least they're close enough to Sweden to make a road trip. I just find the smoke Nazi's getting worse by the day.

Thanks for posting that link. I read it and think I better understand it now. Basically it says that tobacco products cannot be displayed any place in public and smoking is prohibited in places where children might go. Also snus cannot be purchased for resale but individuals can buy thirty cans for personal use. It doesn't really say how often that can be done.

You and I think alike. I don't know what restrictions they may have like our PACT act, but I was thinking you could place an order today for thirty, then tomorrow for another thirty.

The one thing that it would hurt would be deals where you're offered 50 tins for the price of 40. That tends to save a couple bucks.

Kitabz, you are right about the antis. Why can't they get their own lives and quit screwing with ours. If we can snus and it affects no one but us then why do they care? I am sure it must be something to do with the children again.

Yes you are right roth. I was thinking the same thing that multiple orders could be made but only thirty cans at a time.

Someone was telling me that some tax breaks and things are going to expire starting next year and it's not looking good for folks like us.

So far they've postponed the vote. The Dems wanna let 'em expire, but are afraid of mass public hangings....guess they're at least smart enough to see that. Still, who know what they'll do. If they end up not voting to extend tax cuts, they automatically expire, then the finger pointing starts by the Repubs and we still lose. Hang 'em all I say :-x!

The big one is the death tax. This year -

"Yes, the estate tax is repealed, but only if you live until 2010 and then have the good sense to die during that particular calendar year. Thats right. If you die in 2009 you will pay estate tax if your estate exceeds $3.5 million. If you die in 2010, you pay no estate tax, no matter how large your estate. For those dumb enough to die in 2011, the current estate tax that we now know and love is back in full force!"

Steinbrenner knew what he was doing. If the no new taxes administration gets their way, next year the fed will take 55% of everything you have over $1m. That sounds pretty high, but start adding up home value, insurance policies, and 401k plans and you'd be amazed how many people it will affect.

The people that really have serious money, can afford to gift it out while they're still alive. However, the normal folk and small business is what it will really hurt. You can't be giving away your possessions when you don't know how long you'll live. If you run a small business, say a lumber yard or farm, you either need to give away control or be faced with an un-payable tax bill on death unless you liquidate. Liquidation will involve losing the family owned business and the corresponding lost jobs.

It really is tough not being filthy rich.

I read that one too, roth. Funny how extortion is legal in some avenues. My stance is the same as always...if I ever legally earn a few million from my own sweat or genius (ok back there, far left, I heard the snicker) it's mine. Mine, mine, mine! No law, other than a reasonable income tax, should make me fork it over. I should have the right to be buried with it, give it away or burn it. If, in fact, I have to give 55% over to morally bankrupt IRS agents, will someone please wipe my cold dead axx with it first??
