I also posted this in the Modding forum but thought it might get more replies here.

My boyfriend is planning a backpacking trip. We have 510 and eGo batteries. We have pcc for the 510 and of course our USB chargers and 5v PT.

What do I look for in a solar USB charger for him to take to make sure to have enough battery power for about a week? His eGo battery lasts him about 10 hours currently.

Should I be looking for the 5v output?

TIA

I actually posted this in the battery mods forum and got nothing for 2 days so thought I might try it here. I did finally get a response over there but they are modders and mostly gave hints on building one. I just wanted to know what specs to look for if I want to buy one. I did find a few 'solar cell phone' chargers on amazon and at REI. I guess I will have to purchase one before the trip and see how it does. When I do that I will certainly post so everyone has a reference.

Thanks for the replies!

I went to Burning Man a few weeks ago and spent ten days in the desert without power. Rather than trying to figure out how to charge my ego batteries, I opted to get a Chuck and eight 18650 batteries. I charged them all before I left, vaped like a fiend all week, and never ran out of batteries the entire 10 days. In fact, I still had 2 freshies when I left. Granted it's an expensive option, but you won't find yourself without a working PV and you get a damned fine mod to boot.

Incidentally, I haven't touched my ego since I got my Chuck. 3.7v is far superior to 3.2v.

Portable USB Battery Pack for Nokia, Samsung, Sony PSP - eBay (item 200520383444 end time Oct-16-10 07:49:05 PDT)

3400mah battery & a 510 battery is about 150mah. I am sure there is a US seller with the same product and similar price to save shipping time.

The portable solar charger that are connected to a battery are usually not worth it. Better to buy a 3400mah batt to charge the e cigs, cell etc. Another option is a small Brunton maybe 6 or 12w, either should charge a 3400mah battery in a day. The Brunton are fairly light. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWRmqL_1t14

For camping with my vehicle I take a 26w Brunton, wired into a solar charger and clip directly to the vehicle battery. This allows the vehicle radio, two way radios, Wilson Cell Amp among many other things to run without having to run the vehicle 15 minutes every 2 hours. Saves gas since I am usually out for a week or longer. The Brunton is not ment to fully charge my vehicle battery since I will drain far more than it charges, the goal is to keep the battery from going dead using the solar setup as a trickle charge.

Hey, I recently purchased a portable 4000 Mah solar battery charger. I have been using it for a couple of weeks now with good results. I took it camping last week which was fantastic as I was able to sit with friends around the barbecue with my battery charging through 1 USB port and I had the other port for my USB Pass through ;). Anyway my point is I would definitely recommend one!
