I have just received a reply from my local MP, Mr Eric Pickles, on the letter I sent to him ref. e-cigs.
In relation to the last of my three communications, this is the relevant part of the response I have received from the CEO of the MHRA ...

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has asked the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for further information about their analysis and the MHRA is also considering the need for further testing of products currently available on the UK market

I'm no wordsmith, but that is quite a nice thing to hear. I would like to think that it means that they are no longer going to listen blindly to the FDA's opinion on the subject.

What i would like to know, is WHY is it that so few a people know that these E-Cigs exist.

I took mine to my Doctors. I'm on a quit smoking course. Neither he, or the nurses have ever heard of the E-Cig. They were amazed at my demonstration.
Also all the staff in my local Pharmacists were totally gob smacked at my demo.

This might be just the area were i live, but so far i have yet to find anyone that has seen or heard of the E-Cigs in my home town...Suffolk.
How can we fight to save vaping, if no-one knows they exist, or know what the hell we are talking about?

I have signed all the petitions to fight this ban, but what use is one person?

I went into three local retailers on Thurs, and gave them a demo of my 510 under the premise of 'have they considered selling the disposable e-cigs?'.
Even if you masquerade as a customer who would be a potential buyer if they stocked them, it gets the word out.
Each of them said "Oh, is that one of those e-cigs?". I gave each a 'sales' chat, also pointing out that I have no ulterior motive other than a moral one. Even if two of them say to a cousin who smokes that they should try one on my word of mouth, then it is exponential growth of knowledge.
I used to work in a video rental shop and sold damage insurance on VHS tapes, so I can speed talk and remain legible :)

E-Cigs got a tiny mention on BBC News this morning which quite surprised me.They were discussing the newspapers where some (record?) shop had decided to advertise cigarettes and the guy said 'well cigarettes give you cancer, they could have chosen electric cigarettes etc instead' :)

Let Mr Pickles know this one:

In one study, prison volunteers were exposed to aerosolized ethylene glycol concentrations of 3-67 mg/m3 (1.4-27 ppm) for 20-22 hours a day for 1 month. The resulting body fluid levels were 1.6-8.4 mg% for urine and 8-21.2 mg% for serum. The participants showed no serious signs of ethylene glycol intoxication, but they did experience nose and throat irritation (Wills, Coulston et al. 1974). No reports of adverse health effects from chronic ethylene glycol environmental exposures were found.

That basically means that the levels of EG that the FDA purportedly found were highly unlikely to have any toxic effect at all, as Ethylene glycol is generally not toxic by inhalation.

That's some good info hifi. I'll include it in my next letter.
