Hey guys dunno if anyone in here can answer these or not but worth a shot....

I have VERY severe sleep apnea (around 140 to 150 per hour). I also have a tracheostomy (tube in my throat that i use to breathe when im asleep). Since I started vaping i've noticed that my trach tube ends up clogged up by the time i wake up every morning (normally its mucus and such in the tube) but lately its been clogged by something harder than just mucus. I'm thinking it could be because vaping drys your throat a lot maybe thats where its coming from.....Now i am trying to get my trach tube taken out within the next week or so and going to try the CPAP again for my sleep apnea (since i did have a deviated septum fixed maybe i can tolerate it better now?). I'm wondering if my throat being dried out would effect my apneas? I mean it can't be worse than it was before i got the trach since smoking effects the apneas. I try to keep well hydrated while vaping but i chain vape most of the day so Not sure i could ever drink enough fluids to keep myself hydrated lol.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and any input is very appreciated

well I have no answers at all for you, as I know nothing about any of those things, but wanted to say that I am sorry you are having to deal with all that! How long have you been vaping?? I know when I started, I was coughing up some nasty stuff as my lungs were cleaning themselves out, maybe that has something to do with it??

Here and back
I'm not a doctor and a doctors opinion would be best. Now, my question. Were you a smoker? Have you quit analogs? How much did you smoke? How long since your last cig? I only ask because I'm curious because when I started e cigs and quit analogs completely there was a brief period of time were I "coughed/hacked" up more junk than when I smoked. From research here it seems likely it was my lungs regenerating and "sloughing up/off" all the crap from 41 years of smoking. I no longer hack or cough.

PS - I had sleep apnea as well but no longer. E cigs???? I wonder.

Hi. Part of the problem with trachs is that they dry out very quickly because your bypassing your nose, which aids in humidity (I'm keeping it simple, there r other factors). Are you on oxygen? If you are that can add to your dryness. Have you tried a humidifier, you may be able to have a medical humidifier attached to your future CPAP or to your present trach with a collar, this is common and may help. If not, try a room humidfier. You should still talk with your dr. though. Hope this helps.

The PG in the liquid is known to dehydrate. I had horrible leg cramps and headaches my first two weeks of vaping due to dehydration. I switched to a 50%PG and a 50%VG ratio in my juice and it's helped significantly.
I'm not sure if doing so will help you out, but it's worth a shot. Also, like the others said.. I would go and see your Dr just in case.

I'm going to the doctor this friday :D I plan on asking her all thse questions to get some "official" answers but figured it couldn't hurt to ask ahead of time. Now to answer some questions that were asked of me lol

Keyz I didn't realize the health section was even there lol i usually spend my time reading around here or sometimes on general discussion

ToniAnne Im thinking that's probably part of the problem....im certainly hoping thats all it is!

AJMoore- I quit smoking almost 2 months ago and thats how long i've been vaping. I smoked about a pack and a half a day for probably about 10 years

Riverwinds- My cpap does have the humidifier so hopefully when i get this tube out and im using that again that'll help. I try to keep my room fairly humid but i don't have a humidifer or anything

VRubin I have tried some like 80/20 mixes and stuff like that but never tried anything higher than that for fear of losing TH (which is what keeps me off of analogs)....Guess i could put a want up for some high VG juice to try out...may do that later but i feel bad cuz i've gotten a lot more than i've been able to give so far

While I can't speak of the tube, I do use a CPAP and it does have the humidifier. But, I've had to turn on a room humidifier 2 months earlier than usual due to hardening mucus in my sinuses.

I think the vaping is the culprit.

Not a huge issue, for me, but a small humidifier may be of help for ya'.

(And talking to the doc is always good stuff.)

Well before i had the surgery i wasn't able to tolerate the mask to the cpap. I kept throwing the mask off in the middle of the night and not knowing i did it. And with as bad as my apneas were i was falling asleep at work and risking losing my job which is why i got the trach in the first place. Well now that i need to look for a new job i think my chances of it are gonna be pretty low with a tube hanging out of my throat....When she did the surgery she did fix a deviated septum that i had so im hoping since she did that i'll be able to tolerate the mask better (i was using a hybrid mask).

Yeah, I had the throwing off bit too until I found a mask that actually felt good. It so lightly touches that it can be difficult to realize it's on when first waking up. (All I can see on it is RESMED. Someday I really should pay attention to what I'm signing for in the phamacy.)

(Don't remember my numbers, but do remember a herd of scrub dressed people waking me up in the clinic during the testing telling me I had a bad case.)

The CPAP changed my life and I don't really know how I could go back to the way it was. (How many time did you wake up at work and wonder how you got there?)

Yeah i've tried more masks than i can count.....The biggest problem i had was i was bound to full face masks since i had a really badly deviated septum. I remember the numbers on how bad my apneas are cuz the doctor at johns hopkins (one of the best hospitals in the country) told me i was the WORST case she'd ever performed surgery on and one of the worst she's ever seen. She told me there should be mild, moderate, severe and Mike Gariety haha. The trach worked great for me for most of the time but ever since i had to change my own tube things went downhill. The tube i have in right now is too small for me which is one of the reasons im just trying like hell to just get it out. Having it "sized" back up to the size it should be is excruciatingly painful (i know i've had it done twice already) and it just irritates that part of my throat and i coughed out the origional tube i had. The tube i had to have put in instead is a plastic one that needs a band around my neck to be held into place. Good to hear ur having success with the CPAP tho!! I'm praying that it will work for me now that my deviated septum has been fixed

The best answer is to talk to your doctor.

Vaping has not been proven by doctors (over long-term studies) to be 100% healthy, and it can affect people differently. Talk to your doctor and see what options there are.

As for the vaping itself, you might want to try a different liquid. Different liquids affect us differently.

Yeah im hoping to see the doctor this friday if i have the money for the apointment and i plan on asking all of this and hopefully having a long talk with her about it all.
