Hi Guys and Gals,

New member who has stumbled across this forum.

So, I'm having a bit of an issue and need some advice/help.

I gave up smoking on the 17th Sep, and got myself a Cool Fire IV with an Aspire Atlantis BVC tank which I have been using ever since. I've used the same liquid so far (50/50) and not had any issues UNTIL last night. (Coil was changed about 1 1/2 weeks ago for reference)

All off a sudden, it felt like moisture was hitting the back of my throat when taking a hit :/

I've googled and read a lot of threads (Hence Ive ended up here) and I've seen similar problems, but nothing quite the same. I don't actually feel liquid on my tongue like a lot of people have said, its not hot either. But it def feels like some liquid (feels more like moisture than actual drops of liquid) is now coming through on each hit and I can't for the life of me work out why. It has certainly changed the experience from one of 'I cant believe I didnt give up smoking ages ago!' to 'I want a cig!'

I went back to the store I bought it from today to get some help but the guy there who has always seemed very helpful said it seemed fine to him. I'm sure its not just me though and there is actually a problem :(

For reference, I took off the tip and cleaned it. A few hits later and I can see the liquid if I pull out the tip and take a look, hence I'm sure there's a problem.

As a newbie, you'll have to bear with me if info is incorrect, but I thought the coil only needed replacing when you lost the flavour / it became hot? Essentially I'm wondering if replacing the coil in this situation is going to make a difference, or if its the tank that has somehow become faulty?

Sorry for the long post. I like to get all the info out there :) - Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Silver

Hello @DJSilverback and welcome to the forum. I would change the coil. I doubt it's the tank. You have to rule out one thing before looking for another. If you've had the coil for a week and a half it's probably getting close to needing changed anyways.

When I had the Aspire Nautilus I would take my old coils and soak them in vodka for a week or so, giving them a shake every once in a while. It seemed to cut the gunk and after they were removed and air dried over night or longer I would get more use out of them.

Good luck.

Condensation in the air tube is normal.
If the user doesn't dry the air tube as routine maintenance it only has two places it can go.
Down into the head causing it to flood (spit, sputter, gurgle, leak out of the airflow hole) or up through the drip tip into the mouth if using a normal inhale or onto the back of the throat if using a quick hard inhale.

Be sure the head is tightened securely into the base, sometimes they loosen when removing & replacing the tank to fill. Makes sure all the sealing o rings are in place & undamaged.

When replaceable heads go bad / need replacing they can give all sorts of symptoms, leaking, dry hits, flooding, slow or stop wicking or just quit working.

Dark or thick or artificially colored and especially sweet liquids tend to clog wicking material & gunk coils rapidly which leads to off, odd, burnt, weak flavor or funky tastes.

Nautilus will sometimes give a wet feeling vape when under powered this excess un vaporized juice in the head has to go somewhere, flooded head or into the users mouth.

Sir2fyablyNutz - Hi, thank you for the warm welcome. I will try changing the coil. Only reason I hadn't tried yet is because I thought (as wrongly explained to me) they only needed changing when the flavour went or you got a burning sensation etc.

Archer74 - Yes it does! Mouth to lung I'd say. It cant be the juice as its the same juice since day one (Sins 13) which I am just about to change as I didnt like the flavour in the first place but at the time couldnt find another one I did when I decided to give up. (There was a limited selection in the shop where I live) I now have 3 diff flavours to swap out and test with, which I was going to do as soon as this bottle of Sins 13 - Suzy 6, ran out.

Topwater Elvis - Everything seems to be screwed ok. When you say 'head' going bad, are you referring to the coil or the tank or something else? (Sorry for my ignorance. I now know how people feel when I talk about computers to them lol)

You really do only change the coil when they go bad. Decrease in flavor or vapor is a clue, as well as the burnt taste. If the coil starts to get gunked up it can cause issues. The vodka trick will sometimes eat away the gunk and make the coil reusable, sometimes it doesn't help. Do NOT use rubbing alcohol, too many chemicals. I used the smallest jar I could find with about a shot of vodka in it.

I see a lot of people talking about cleaning it with Vodka. Maybe its just because I'm new, but with the amount of money I'm saving... I'm happy to just throw them away and replace. I'm just not confident its going to fix the prob? :/

Archer had it down to a T regarding my issue. Pity he didnt put the solution up
When you want someone to answer/reply put an "@" symbol in front of their name, they get a notice. @DJSilverback <---like that.

It is the first sign the coil is getting "gunked" up. Not many notice this because this is more evident for a low watt-mouth to lung hitter. In time juice will leave a crust on the coil and will not heat the juice as much as a fresh coil would. This can lead to the vapor being produced to be cooler and condense easier when it hits the surface of your throat. Dark liquids and sweet juices gunk the coil faster - even faster if they are both. And since you mentioned that you are a mouth to lung hitter gives more time for the vapor to cool down more and condense faster. You can ramp up the power to heat the liquid more but then you'll reach the same point again later on(a few more days) and by then the gunk will get heated enough to get a burnt/odd taste. So either clean the coil or change it out.

Wow guys.. you are giving me some awesome new info here. I'm new to the mechanics of how this all works.. I only switched to a semi decent set up a few months ago when I got my eleaf istick. I work in engineering and can see that what @Archer74 and @Sir2fyablyNutz and @Topwater Elvis are saying is roughly the same thing but for different reasons.
When using my old starter kits.. 1st and 2nd generation e.pens they were great for a few days and then tailed off badly. The power getting to...and then through the coil into the liquid diminished and new parts were required. My biggest issue was batteries... cheap cheap cheap... the condensation is a result on not getting the heat transfer to the surface of the liquid rapidly enough and can therefore be any of the suggestions the 3 vapemasters suggested...
My eyes are open!!!!

If I dont understand this issue wrong, You have to change the coil and you will have no problem at all.
Even if I dont know the type you use, since every coil works same way you have to (It is up to you what) dry burn, change at least once in a week. If you are still on the same coil since middle september you will have issues. Now you say vapour is all right it is not. Because we know that device cant evaporate all the liquid so you have liquid too.

@Archer74 and everyone else who replied to me.

YES, it was the coil - Thank you! :)

The coil had been on day 14 yesterday, and the first time I swapped it was simply due to the flavour going (2 weeks ago) but yesterday because it was such a horrible hit in comparison, I didnt think the coil could cause this. I think @Archer74 explained it fully in his last post which is good to know :)

So problem fixed! :)
