Hi everyone, I am still pretty new to vaping, so please forgive my noobness. A bit ago I recieved an ego CE4 clearomizer kit with 1100 mah batteries (I am pretty sure they're 3.7V, but not positive) and I absolutely love it. The CE4 units were pretty flimsy in my experience and they kept breaking down on me in one way or another far too quickly (like 4 of them each lasted about a week) so I started trying out some new stuff.

I ordered a couple of the T2/CE5 clearos, and I love them, but after just a few days I noticed I was getting a nasty burned taste that really put me off. I cleaned and dry-burned them real good (a bunch of goo burned off, and the coil was glowing a nice orange again) and I hoped that would do the trick, but while I was cleaning I noticed I had managed to actually burn the part of the wick connected to the coil (before the dry burn) and low and behold that burnt taste was still there.

I'm not sure what resistance rating the original coils are, so I ordered a few 2.2 ohm replacement coils in the hopes that they'll burn cooler and not cause the same problem. I also ordered a few of the T3/TABACC clearos to see if I have better luck with those. If anyone has any other suggestions for me, I would really appreciate hearing them. Whether you think I should order even higher resistance ratings, a different type of clearo, or just give my coil some time to cool between hits, I am all ears.

I love vaping, and haven't had any analogs (and have no intention of going back to them) so these hiccups in my vaping life are a real bummer. It hurts my soul to vape on such good juice only to have it taste all burnt. Thanks again in advance, and thanks for welcoming into this awesome community. Vape On.

The T2's are top coil and wicking and once the juice level falls below that, esp. if you're normal vaping angle is down, then there's a bigger chance of getting dry hits on top coils and burning the wick. A soak of the coil unit in 151 proof Vodka (cheap, clear, unflavored type - Galen's) will help with the wick and the coil. Some dry burn, then soak. Some soak, then dry burn... I just soak.

The T3's are bottom coil and wicking and have a lesser chance of burning - everything else being equal - I also soak those when the draw gets a bit tighter....

That said, the 'burning' can come from the type of ejuice you're using and the flavor. If you have dark juices (usually means some particulants) they are more likely to clog wick and coil and you'll need to clean more often. IF they are light flavored ejuices, 3.7V with a 2.2ohm coil can burn the fruit, berry, vanilla flavors, esp. on the T2 because of what is stated above.

I've found the 2.2 ohm coil on the T3 works for my light flavors but the 1.8ohm is needed on the stronger flavors ... BUT I'm using Joyetech eGo's which, except for one mode in the upgrade models, have a constant 3.3-3.4V output. Joye doesn't make any 1100mAh models so no doubt you have an unregulated 3.7V batt which means you're going to have to use higher resistance coils, esp. on the T2. You likely could use the 2.2 ohm coil on the T2 for strong flavors - tobacco, coffee, chocolate, menthol. But you'll likely need 2.6-2.8 ohm on the T2 for lighter flavors.

Because the coil is submerged for most of the vape on the T3 - you can use less resistance coils on them but even then when the ejuice is Almost gone or has gone below the wicking when vaping at an angle, it's time to refill.

That is a whole lot of info, all of it extremely useful. I truly appreciate all of it. I was worried about the wick not staying wet on the T2, but thought I was just being paranoid since the wick barely reaches halfway down the clearo and thought "why would they bother making a unit that can hold so much if you have to fill it as soon as it gets half empty?" I guess I should have gone with my gut feeling. I stick almost entirely to tobacco flavors (especially NETs) so I'm not too worried at the current moment about the 2.2 ohm coils being too low, but it is certainly something I will keep in mind.

One question I did have-- about the soaking -- is that something you only do immediately with the coil unit to prevent singe, or is it a possible remedy for pulling the burnt taste out of a wick that is already singed? Not that they're all that expensive, but any time I can salvage a unit I'm going to do what I can.

Again, thank you so much for the help and all of the great info, I don't know what I would do without this forum.

Kent C's advice is on target.
You don't have to refill at half full on the T2 but you do have to tilt. Or tilt and roll as the fluid get lower. It comes pretty natural after a little while. Important to keep the wick wet /damp. It will burn faster if it is not.
I haven't tried some of the newer clearos but of the over 6 month old groups , the T2 gives me the best flavor and most consistent hit. It also seems to leak the least and least often of any.

The vodka soak is to clean the wick and coil. I got away from dry burning after losing two batts. The vodka breaks up the gunking - sometmies some "color" left in the wick but not burnt taste. The wick (if silica - cotton does burn) really doesn't burn. You can take a torch to it and it will return to pristine white. It's the particulates in and on the wick that burn and then hang on. - clearos only. If a carto "sock" or filler gets burnt - you have to pitch it.

With my T3's I've only replaced on tank and I've moved to the T3 when they were released. And I've replaced about 6 coils now. Family has about 11 eGo-T3 combos going. So the vaping gets split up and the PV's by flavor - one combo per flavor basically. So none really get power vaped. On the 6 that got tossed, I probably gave them 3 soaks each over time and then the ohm either decrease or increase too much to bother. I probably have another three ready for the bin but they last a long time between soaks. I have no real dark flavors. And I vape with a VG Nic base, VG/H2O blend, no PG except what might be used as a base in some of the flavorings. And Lots of vapor on mostly 1.8ohm T3's :D

Thanks again everyone. And especially for posting that video Kent C, and for the tilt-and-roll advice, AppTiger. After trying out your method between vapes I got really nice hits, even with only a little juice left. My T3's should arrive in about an hour, can't wait to test them out; it would be nice to find a clearo that truly satisfies without any issues for more than a week.
