Hello! My sister has been recommending that I try vaping for over a year and I finally am giving it a try. I have smoked analogs for 13 years and was anywhere from .5 to just under a PAD. I've smoked all kinds of brands, but in the last year it has been American Spirit yellows or organic lights. I want to stop smoking to heal my voice (I'm a singer) and health. And it's ridiculously expensive at nearly $9 a pack.

So, two weeks ago I got a JOYE eGo in the mail. Two of them actually. 5 pre-filled cartridges. 5 empty cartridges. 2 bottles of VG juice in 11 and 18 milligram strengths. I loved it and didn't smoke for 2 days, but then started detoxing and it was a just bad week life-wise to do that, so I bought a pack of analogs and have been mostly using analogs since. Today and yesterday, I have been going back to vaping more exclusively.

I have been watching newbie videos on YouTube and reading the forums, but am still confused about juice and a few other things. I am still confused about cartridges and refilling them. Most of the tutorials I have seen involve syringes and taking apart the cartridges. I have also seen directly dropping juice onto the atty or into the polyfiber in the cart. I really don't want to miss around with taking cartridges apart at this point, but am unsure how to proceed. I have ordered more pre-filled cartridges and a drip tip, but they will not arrive until later this week. I should also say that I am willing to invest in e-cigs, so money is not the biggest concern... making vaping sustainable, easy and enjoyable for me is.

Whew! I think that's enough of a preface, so here are my questions:

  • How often do I have to clean the atty if I am using 100% VG? I have no idea how to tell if it is dirty and it still is producing good vapor. I have not cleaned it once yet.
  • What is the easiest way to use juice? Should I get an ego tank atty and cartridges or do I need to use syringes to fill them? I still don't know the best way to fill the empty cartridges I have right now and there is so much technical info regarding this and e-cigarettes. Maybe I should just stick to pre-filled carts for now?
  • Do you think getting a 510 to use on the go with a PCC would be a good idea? I don't really mind the size of the eGo, but I know the parts are interchangeable and I'm out and about most days. I kind of like the idea of having a smaller model to use on the go.
  • How many spare batteries and atomizers should I stock up on?
  • Any other hints on making the transition to vaping easier for me?

Thank you in advance for any replies. I know these questions must have been asked hundreds of times before, but I am feeling overwhelmed by all the information out there right now.

I can only answer a couple questions-

The problem with getting a 510 on the go is the battery life. Batteries don't last very long.

I only used cartomizers, never the atty & carts so I'm no help with them. I got the boge 2.0 cartomozers and popped off the plastic and dripped juice in them. I didn't like the whole atty/cart thing at all. Now I use the tank and love it! Easy!

People that use 100% VG seem to have a problem with tanks because the juice is so thick. I personally use 70pg/30vg and have not had any problems.

Good luck!

That's why I was thinking of getting the PCC to charge, but I'm not sure how long that extends battery life. I don't vape constantly and I was thinking it might be a good fit if I had the charger and then could use my eGo at home.

I didn't even know that cartomizers existed until today for the eGo. The whole atty/cart thing is what is turning me off and seems over complicated. I would like to have many flavors of juice, but an easy way to fill up. I was just reading about 100% VG being too thick for tanks. If tanks are as easy as you say, I can get a blend of 70/30 juice and try it. Thank you so much!

All you have to do is drip the juice into the filling in the cartridge, no big deal. If you want a different juice, just pull out the filling material and wash/dry it and pop it back in. I use the XL atomizers & cartridges with my ego so I can put a lot more juice in it at a time. You can always order a few cartomizers and try them out too. The Pcc would probably work so you would want to make sure you had 2 batteries so one is always charging.

I just tried that with one of my empty cartridges and it was super easy. I put about 7 drops in until it looked saturated. This will work at least until I get the new carts or order cartomizers and/or tanks. I just saw that the PCC gives the batteries 4 charges, so I think with 2 I should be fine with the amount I vape. Thank you!

Hi Levitas. I have taken the filler out and knocked the little plastic pegs(?) out of a few cartridges and just used them as drip tips. If you vape directly from the atommizer it can get hot so the drip tip (or modified cartridge) serve as a buffer between the heat and your lips.:) And yes, just a couple of drops in your atomizer.

Sweet. I don't think I have those pegs you're talking about. I am using 510 carts with me eGo and I just wanted to know because I ordered like 9 flavors and though I ordered extra carts I didn't want to have to clean em over and over again just to try the flavors. So, I'll drip them first and if I like them I'll load a cart up with it. THANK YOU!

If you use 100%vg juice you will probably want to clean it once a week. just buy some 90% isopropyl alcohol and let it soak for a few hours take them out, rinse them in water and let them dry. there are some crazy other methods out there, but this is the easiest. The method is the same for any juice really.

The easiest thing to do is stick with prefilled... but that costs a lot more and is hard to get a LARGE variety of juice.

The other thing you could do is get some cartomizers. Your best bet for easy would be something like the soft tip cartomizer. as seen here Smok Tech 2.0 ohm 510 Cartomizers just pop off the rubber end with your nails, teeth, a paper clip, etc. and fill them till they look full. it will take a few tries to get it down right.

If you want something smaller then yes go with the 510 for around town. but get two of them. that way you don't have to worry about a dead battery, you will always have one charged.

How many spare batteries and atomizers should I stock up on?

I would suggest getting at least 5 atomizers. or go with cartos those come in packs of 5 for dirt cheap. and last a lot longer than people think. I've had 1 carto die on me completely.

batteries... just get two of each type that you use. if you want to be a little paranoid go with 4 batteries of each type...

Any other hints on making the transition to vaping easier for me?

If you use the computer a lot get a passthrough as seen here. MadVapes 5 Volt 510 Manual USB Passthrough

USE CARTOMIZERS. they will make your life so much simpler.

Don't stick to tobacco juices, try all types of juice with all different mixes of pg/vg until you find what works for you.

don't use Chinese juice. stick with American made.

if you want to buy anything check the classifieds first, you could save yourself a lot of money.

For your eGo, you might think about the Mega cylinder atty. It holds lots of juice. There is also a Mega/Monster carto, but you have to use a syringe to fill it. It also holds lots of juice. My Freedom Smokes has a good deal when using discount code: smoke.

I use the 5V PT that is recommended above with my eGo. If you get one, be sure to get the 2 amp AC adapter as well, because the PC USB won't supply sufficient amperage.

For organic juice, check out Vaperite.

But it's also awesome--I just got the sampler (and wow, those sample sizes were way smaller than I'd envisioned), and they are AMAZING. I will definitely be buying more when I've used up some of my current juice supply. I mean, BOYSENBERRY? Hot damn!

Boysenberry sounds amazing. I'm going to place an order right now! :)

DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS!
i have been vaping happily since 2008. i use an eGo 1000mah battery with mega eGo cylindrical type B cartridges and atomizers.
yes i have tried the eGo-tank (not sold on it-makes flavors very subdued/muted) and is a juice hog.
i am a heavy vaper (vape thru 30ml ejuice in 5-6 days easy).
my next buy will be the GO-GO from NHaler.

i am very happy with my eGo setup right now. have used it since July 2010 and have only gone thru 3 batteries and 3 atomizers in less than 8 months.

my favorite ejuice is Atomic Cinnacide by Tasty Vapor, Fire & Ice or Cinnabomb by VaporBomb......these juices are great alone and can be used to top off average "eh" juices and make them good if not great, so i never waste juices having these always on hand.
i also love Kick Bass Vapor for Caramel Cappucino, Monkey Bread, Momma's Angel Wings Rice Pudding. but i always go back to my cinnamon based ejuices.
I never clean my atomizers. Only thing I do is place them battery side up during the night. Of course, blow them out if i ever go filling crazy and flood them. My sister does the same thing-never cleans them. She has had the same atomizer on her eGo for almost a year. seems like the less you jack with them, the better they are.
my favorite hardware companies are breezesmokes (esp cuz i live 20 min drive from them so i can exchange a "dud" by just running up the road), litecigusa and liberty flights.
