What is it with all these "built-in" charging solutions lately? Don't get me wrong... modding is cool... and one of the things about it is that you can do whatever you want. So I'm not knocking it. I just don't understand it.

If you have removable batteries, why is everyone so keen on building a charger into a mod? What's the motivation? To me, it just complicates the mod. I have a dual external charger... charges 2 batteries at once. Almost any kind of li-ion (well, lots of em anyway).

I know that units with a fixed battery have chargers built in (eGo makes one, and there are others). So a mod with a fixed battery and built in chargers, I understand. 3.7 v PT's have them too I guess (fixed or replaceable). IDK why I would want a cord haning off my nice 1x or 2x 14500/18650 mod tho.

WTF? Coolness factor? "Because I can" factor? What am I missing? I see a lot of modders asking about it, what I don't know is "why?".

P.S. Also, unless you employ a lot of care... you can't really vape them and charge them at the same time. So it's "off line" while charging anyway. Like a stock battery would be. Is this so you don't have to tote around a charger? Do you carry 2 mods then, rather than spare removable batteries??????

It just adds to the 'all in one' factor I guess. My favorite thing about the eGo pass-through was the fact that I could just leave it plugged in while I vaped, never had to worry about bringing a fresh battery when I left for work etc. As long as there was access to a USB outlet, I was good. Using a Maxi RoughStack now and I can't complain about the battery life - it's good to go for 2 days, but with 14500's I could see the appeal in having a built in charge circuit.

I just made 3.7vbox with 3XAA box with one open slot for spare batt. on top of that I got 2 more batts in my pv case I know I over doing it but you never know lol I might not be able to go home for a few days for some reason. I take with me enuff juice and power to last me at least 4 days. That 3.7 is kept in the case to and never used. Cuz my VV box is better. I agree wit ya attypops, to me its just easier to take my batteries out.

I agree, the "all in one" factor. The Lea is an excellent model and charging just seems easier.

Yeah, but IDK about it.... do you have to put it aside to charge, or can you vape it while charging? Can you change the battery? (this post doesn't apply to fixed battery e-cigs.)

Yeah... but you can't change the battery in that (the ego PT). Heck, I even got my GF to get one of those for her vaping. It doesn't apply to the OP. I understand that one. But... if it's a removable battery to begin with, like most of the mods built here, why also build in a charger? What's the appeal?

For me, it is more of a hassle to take a screw driver to my box every time I need to charge batt
than it is to just add a charging port to the box. Of course, with single batts it is very easy to
add a charging port.

hey VpnDrgn, didnt you hear... earth magnets are the new screws, lol

just messin with ya, its all personal preference

"if you build it...they will buy"

I guess it's just you and me

Nah, party at GEOGOZ's. Sounds like a good name for a pub anyway. :D We can all charge batteries while vaping with no cords. Animeguy is invited too (so far).

P.S. Although I have no idea how to pronounce it. "Let's all go to GEO....G....GEO-GO-Z... that one place with the G's in it."

I looked into mods with charging built-in so I could dumb it down for people I want to gift them to.

"three drops at a time in this end" vs. "you have to put the charger into this bag and place it on a non-flammable surface, or in your garage on concrete to be safe"

one sounds like a gift i don't want to receive, hahaha

EDIT: the two situations above may not sound clear, just thinking it's difficult enough explaining the dripping and puffing instructions, let alone all that goes along with li-ion cells and charging precautions.

Wait....what? This seems counter-intuitive to me.

Well to be fair, Scottbee did it right with his tornego. A charging stand at his desk that you just drop it into between vapes to keep it topped off and just take it with you knowing it is fully charged. But that is too fancy for me so I just make sure the batts are easy to get out.

Devil's advocate: would you want a cell phone that you had to take out the battery to charge?

Good point. OTOH, if it has a fixed battery in it I UNDERSTAND THAT ONE. It's the removable battery one's I was wondering about.

Then again.... what if they gave you TWO batteries with it, and you just swapped them, and put the other battery on a charger. So, you never had your phone "tied up" charging and stayed mobile?

1. Easy for nOObs. Like, say, my wife, who already has a hard time with carto's/atties/"why does this taste burned?"/"how do I fill this?". It takes away a layer of complexity if they can just plug it on with no extra charger or special charger they have to remember.

2. Convenient. One less thing to carry (charger), don't have to open anything and take out batteries.

3. Adds "Legitimacy". Storebought electronics are easy to charge, especially the cool ones everyone wants. If you add that functionality to your own mod, it adds to the "Oooh I want that"/pimp value of your mod. People dig it, especially people who can't make their own mods.

4. It's a challenge, but not an impossible one that requires a lot of time or $$$. If you have modimust fever, it helps to have something else you can add to a mod that will actually accomplish something.

I don't know, that's all i got.
