Well i just put together a simple box mod out of a 4 AAA box from radio shack, push button, blue led with 430 ohm resistor n master on/off switch, oh and a kr808 tip. I made this to use around the house so i can save my batts for going out. anyway, it works but not sure if im missing something, for power i tried at first using 3 rechargeable aaa's totallying 3.6ish volts, but batts were dead so im recharging them, in the mean time i threw in 3 alkaline batts which at 1.5v each i metered the output at around 4.6ish volts, which to my understanding should give me a thicker vapor n possibly a warmer vape. however it seems as though my 808 auto battery gives me more vapor. i dont get it, too much air flow? not enough amps to push? any thoughts welcome

I believe the issue you're having is the discharge rate on the batteries. Normal Alkaline batteries have a very low discharge rate, they aren't designed for the high draw of an atty or carto. NiMH rechargeables have a slightly higher discharge but not nearly enough battery life for a good PV. Protected L-ions are what you really want in there.

That will give you a basic idea of why they don't work.
