I haven't tested it properly yet unfortunately, my DMM went missing awhile back, but from vaping side to side they are very close with a possible edge going to the 5s. My 4s are older than my 5s so any small amount of advantage the 5s have might simply be from that, either way it's close enough to be difficult to notice so that's good enough for me personally ;)

That's good to hear. I definitely need to get a couple of them. Now if I only could find a place in Europe that has them in stock, for a reasonable price, without outrageous shipping cost...

I had a fully charged vtc5. I let it sit about 24 hours. it lost .2v. I don't know if that is normal or not. I didn't think they would lose that fast. now they take about 2-1/2 hours to charge from 3.5v which is what I expected. the first time they do take longer but I also may have read the dmm wrong. they were probably dead. which would then explain the quick voltage loss.

Hmm.. sounds strange. I'm no battery expert, so I'm not sure if that's normal behavior for new batteries, but I am definitely not experiencing this. I've got a bunch of them that I keep charged up and rotate through, I just checked some that have been sitting for a couple days and my charger refuses to charge, so I assume their voltage hasn't dropped any significant amount. I wish I had my DMM to confirm that though, and I don't really know how accurate my APVs are at that level.

Is this still a really new cell with only a few cycles on it? Are you confident they haven't been brought down below their safe voltage level by accident?

I thought I read 3.7v when I got them but I am thinking they were dead with that charge time. I did accidently bring that one to 2.5v but that is their max safe limit. I charged it right away and it recovered to 3v right after the 2.5v discharge. it has about 10 cycles on it. I normally recharge at 3.5v or so. they could have been dead or I could have killed them. they don't seem to last so long to 3.5v either. I am pretty sure they are not fakes but who knows. it's not really a big deal to me except for safety.

Was the initial voltage immediately after a charge? A cell will drop a bit of voltage after a rest following a charge. 0.2V seems a bit much, though. What was the initial charge? was it 4.2V dropping to 4.0V?

no I charged it to 4.2v. it sat 24 hours and was at 4v with no further charge. just sitting after fully charged for 24 hours. you know what else? these are not lasting at all. I am a heavy vaper but they are down to 3v in 10 ml. i have no idea what is with the ones i got. maybe bad lot. or that could all be normal i don't really know. i would say they last like efest 1600's. given my very first post about them i am thinking something is wrong. perhaps i should toss them while i am ahead?

Dropping from 4.2V to even as far as 4.1V could be normal (although seems a little much). 0.2V seems outside of the norm. I generally see a 0.05V drop after a charge, at most. Li-ions have a particularly low self-discharge, it is one of the nice things about them.

They should be lasting longer than that too. It sounds like they have gotten a higher internal resistance than they should have. This is hard to test without a specialized meter.

I generally look at the charger first in a situation like that. If they are coming off at 4.2V, though, I dunno. It could be that they are charging at above the max charge current, but still terminating at the correct voltage with the saturation charge, but VTCs can take a 4.0A charge current, so that seems somewhat unlikely.

If you aren't draining them over their amp limit, I dunno. Extreme temps maybe?

It is always possible that you got a bad batch. I have quite a few VTCs, and they are all great, but QC issues happen to the best of manufacturers at times.

thank you. I have actually been pretty easy on these batts. I doubt I drew 3 amps. I charged them in a pila, xtar and nitecore. they don't seem to be holding a charge. I just took one off the xtar at 4.2. I put on a 18 clearo on a provari. just to test this, I use mechs. I timed ten 3 second puffs. it was down to 3.2v! I am just going to guess I got a bad lot and toss them now before something goes wrong. the other possibility is I killed them at 2.5v but that is their specified limit. I try not to do that though. I thought something was wrong the first time I charged them if you look back at this thread. not that big a deal I have lost more money than that before! thank you for the help.

Where did you get them? Are you sure they are authentic?

I used a magnet spacer to get in the provari just to test it. i normally use mechs.
b&m. i trust the guy. if they are fakes i doubt he knew. otherwise they could have been a bad lot. i have no idea but they are not right. i got vtc4's somewhere else that easily outperform these. now i know they were either fake or bad for sure. i got vtc5's today at the place i got the vtc4's. behaving completely different. it looks like these will last a full day plus. i tossed the other ones to be safe. i will tell the guy. not a big deal. at least you guys helped me figure out something was wrong before maybe i had an accident. thanks.

How do we authenticate a Sony VTC battery? How do we really know if the ones we have are the real deal?

buying from reputable vendors mainly. Performance secondly.

Honestly, i have not seen any VTC clones yet. I'm sure somebunny is cloning them somewhere, though. Probably some on Alibaba.
