I have two vct5s that are two weeks old. Both have rings burned into the negative terminal after being used in a nemesis mod with a plume veil running dual 20g coils that were twisted with 26, it was a 4 wrap at 1/8" coils. Meter read .8 on each side. It worked fine for 2 days then it started getting really hot, almost too hot to touch. I swapped batteries, checked the coils and all connections and tried again. Got insanely hot and barely heated up the coils. Now both batteries have a ring from the bottom pin that is burnt into them and they discharge like ..... Any insights into what happened?

The guy who worked there said they were a few of the last ones he had and he couldn't restock and told me how they stopped making them so he seemed kinda legit. I've been messing around with it and noticed the bottom contact pin was losing some of its plating so I took a button head 10-32 and ground the head flat and put that in. It seems to have made a difference. Could that plating issue have caused it to maybe arc in the bottom area and create that much heat?

Before assuming the battery is a fake and thus the issue. Make damn sure you have good electrical conductivity thru the MOD. An arch of electricity is MUCH hotter than your coil will ever get under normal circumstances. See LIGHTNING.
Yes the lost plating could be the issues if the metal under the plate is a poor conductor.

The reason is the higher continuous amperage rating. (Even though vaping can be considered a pulse usage application) I only use them in my mechanical mods, for my one regulated that I have, I use LG HE4's and Samsung 25r's.
If you have authentic vtc5's, you can get a good 4-5 hours until you reach 3.6v on a .21ohm build if you don't chain vape throughout the whole duration.
They are in my opinion the safest 18650 out there, if indeed you can find a real one. But the LG's and Sammy's are very robust and great batteries, they're the only 3 18650's I'll use.
